Hello
I just got an old LP today, and need help to identify the steeler. The Band is called
The Fenders, and are from New Mexico,it is a group of Indians from the Navajo Reservation.LP is titled "Once more around",but from the back cover,I see that they have at least 3-4more albums.Their first names are listed, and are:Edward,Erwin,Johnny,Bob,Art and Freddy.
Anyone out there who can name the steelers last name?Album probably from the 60`s.
Sincerely,Egil |

Believe it or not, the band is still around, with Paul Bitsuie handling the steel. There's been an awful lot of personnel changes in the last 40 years, though, and I have no idea who was playing with them back in the '60s. |

Wow! I haven't heard of those guy in many years. Somebody had one of their lp's when my brother and I were on the road back in the early '70's. A lot of Buck Owens and Merle Haggard.
A guy that owned a music store in Aztec, NM, back then, told me that if the Indian bands recorded and sold their records on the reservation, they didn't have to pay for the use of the songs. Never did find out if that was true, or not.
Take care,
Les
