My Wife recently got an album by an alt-country band out of Athens GA called the "Star Room Boys". Really nice E9 playing by a guy named Johnny Neff. Does anyone know of any other work by this tasteful player?

Didn't he play with The Drive By Truckers on "Ganstabilly'? |

I heard the Star Room Boys a coupla years ago at Wolfy's but, for some reason, that players name doesn't sound familiar. Maybe they have a new player now or, perhaps as usual, it's simply that my memory is horrible...
Anyhow, the guy I heard with them was playing an MOT E-Harp in his own oddball tuning and sounded great with the band. |

He was probably the guy that you saw as he was the only PSG player in the band's existence... Unfortunately, The Star Room Boys broke up earlier this year. Too bad as most Alt-Country bands don't seem to have the songwriting and musicianship chops that these guys had.

John is a great player and a very nice guy. If you ever listen to any music that came out of Athens Ga over the past 8 years or so and it has steel on it, it was probably him. The Star Room Boys broke up last year but I do believe he has joined/formed a new traditional country oriented band. He also plays with a "soundscape" kind of act called Japancakes as well as several others from time to time. |

I sure like his playing on the new Drive-by Truckers disc, "Decoration Day" |
