I was in Austin last Saturday and went to see the Derailers at the Broken Spoke.
I have seen them in England and in Switzerland so it was nice to see them at their home gig.
What a band! - there were 500 people in there and the place was swinging, the steel player was Chris Schlotzhauer and the mix was superb. They played everything from Crazy Arms to rock and roll and the dance floor was full all the time.
If you havent seen them the you must - in my opinion they are Austins answer to the Beatles |

Yes Yes!
The Derailers are a blast, I love the "Texas Buckaroo meets the Beatles" sound. I have seen them with and without a steeler and always prefer them with, of course!

Clive, glad you made it back to the UK safely. How did that ShoBud turn out? Ricky does fine work. Thanks for coming up to say howdy. The Spoke is a fun gig, because we play songs we normally don't do in our 90 min show. At the Spoke it's more of a dance gig, so we do Ray Price, Faron Young, etc. I love that stuff! It also amazes me how may poeple from all over the world come in there. It's like that every time I play there once a month. I especially like it when the visitors are steel players. Hope to run into you again.

Hi Chris
I know the Derailers like to be smartly dressed, but last Saturday it was well over 90 degrees and the drummer was playing with a suit and tie on. By the end of the first set he was wet through - so what on earth was he like at the end of the 3rd set?
Come on - let him play in a T-Shirt! |
