Today at a rehearsal, the bass player had never seen a dobro before. He pointed to the soundhole screens and said "Are those speakers?"
What are some of the amusing or confusing things people have commented on or asked you about your steel guitar?

"Cool keyboard, dude"
"Can you do buttonholes on that sewing machine?"
"Is this a Hawaiian guitar?"
"You play that table guit-tar?"
"Electric cheese grader"

Someone asked me "Do those three pedals do the same thing as my piano?".

I was playing a bluegrass gig with this young assassin on the mandolin, some guy in the audience was really diggin his playing, at the set break he came over to where the kid and I were talking and says,
"man you play the heck out of that crazy little guitar"
I thought that was hilarious. |

Had a beautiful darling come up one night to the steel guitar and say, "What do the pedals do"? I just looked up and said "They'll give you an O****M. I won't say what was said after that. True story!
I've had it called a piano, an electric ironing board, and of course the most popular, Hawaiian Pineapple Machine.
As for the previous story it never went any farther than the bandstand but was an enchanting moment and still fun to recall.
