I've converted some of my recordings to MP3 format and posted them for people to listen to. There are 8 original tunes at:

Okay, here are some details:
Four of the originals (including Sagebrush Shuffle) are from my Quasar Steel Guitar CD. They are all on my Extended E9th tuning, which was slightly different in 1995 from what it is today. You might notice the use of a G# to A# pedal, which I no longer have. The guitar was a keyless 1983 Sierra Crown.
The other four originals are from the (out of print) Diatonic Adventures project. I used my unique F Diatonic tuning for those, and recorded them in my living room. The guitar is a 1978 Sierra Olympic.
None of the tunes used Band-In-A-Box. Aside from the drums on two of the Diatonic tracks (which I sequenced), all of the tracks are live musicians. I only played steel - the other instruments were played by my friends.
The gospel tracks were played on my current guitar, a 1996 Sierra Session tuned to Extended E9th. I double tracked them, adding chord pads after I laid down the lead track. There are no other instruments. I used a Peavey Tubefex preamp, and went straight from that into the recorder.

b0b! Nice job! Several months ago I wrote to you in effort to see if such an addition might be made to your already fine Forum and you explained it could overload your server or whatever..............and that your program was not origonally set-up to handle audio tracks. (I appreciated your comments)
But at this point, might it be possible to adjust the set-up.
It would be really nice to be able to hear Forumites from around the world while we're busily lurking, viewing or responding to posts on this wonderful site.
Lot's of firms have music accompanying their web pages. It would be really nice to be able to enjoy a similar feature here on the Forum. Feature one member, either one tune or 7 tunes, during a one week span.
I know I'd enjoy it and it would certainly give us something to do while we're waiting for pages to download or whatever. How do the rest of you feel about this? What a way to become better acquainted with those we correspond with on a regular basis. A post; a photograph; and now a featured artist each week. Great plan! |

I wouldn't want music playing automatically while I'm on the Forum. I'm almost listening to the Opry archives, SteelRadio, or a steel CD while online. Having a list to choose from to listen to when I want would be just fine.  |

I would like to hear some clips of the Sierra
8 string lap. Can you play something Hawaiian on it?? 
You are one of the few people I admire when it comes to breaking "new ground" in that you are not afraid to stick out your "neck" and try something different. Don't you ever stop!

I've only recorded once with the Sierra Laptop, Roy, and I'm not happy with my performance on that track. The guitar sounds wonderful, but my hands weren't doing too well that day.
Maybe I'll do a demo on it sometime, just for the Forum. When I have some "spare" time.

Great sounds. I am impressed by the bar movement and restrained use of pedals.
It made me want to pick up the steel guitar.
So I did, high in the air, but came to my senses in time to gently set it back down. Maybe with a few more years of practice I could qualify for a witch burning, tho I understand MADD has put a kink in those events.

Tony, I think that the Gospel songs were recorded with the Danny Shields dual pickup, but I'm not sure. I didn't take notes that evening - I just sat down with the recorder and played.
All of the Quasar recordings were done with that pickup for sure, and the Diatonic tracks were done with a single-coil Shields pickup (the stock pickup for that '78 Olympic).

| That's some darn nice playing, b0b. Have you been playing a 12 string for a long time? I was wondering if the extra 2 strings take a long time to get used to. | I've been playing 12 string E9th for 25 years, Carson. I never really played 10 string until recently. It's not hard to go back and forth between the two. |
