Anyone know much about this guy?
I was at a concert yesterday, and the CD being played before the show started was "Jon Rauhouse's Steel Guitar Air Show" (or some very similar title). Sounded real good - some Hawaiian, some swing, some country-rock, all steel...
What little info I can find on the Internet indicates he's part of the Phoenix group that produced Giant Sand, etc...

Nick,

Jon is on the Bloodshot Records label here in Chicago. You can read more about him here: http://www.bloodshotrecords.com/bands.php3?bandid=34 Yeah, he is a pretty good player!

I believe he currently resides in Chicago, I just saw him during SouthBySouthwest here in Austin last week, and he sat in with several bands, plus has his own the Steel Guitar Airshow. He played one set at a free afternoon showcase put on by the Hideaway in Chicago, (at Pok-E-Jo's BBQ in Austin) and he had several guest vocalists, incl. Sally Timms, Kelly Hogan, and Neko Case. It was fantastic!! I saw him a few years ago, and he has really been hittin the practice room, really getting *great* sounds out of an MSA, and a Weissenborn (-styled?) guitar. He then sat in with Neko Case, he also played with her in Feb. at an Austin gig...I haven't heard the disc yet, though I imagine it's good. His pedal playing had a nice fluid feel, and he clearly listens to some Speedy West for inspiration...he's recorded with Giant Sand, Calexico (Giant Sand's bassist and drummer's group, also at the free show, but with a different steeler playing an Emmons) Neko Case, and I believe the Waco Brothers...
