Shania Twain is scheduled to play a show at the Super Bowl in San Diego;___I suppose at half-time. Does anyone know if she will have a steel guitar player in the band?

At my Super Bowl party we will be watching at half-time if there is a steel player;___if not, we probably won't. Heck, I don't need another sex show, the Playboy Mansion is only about a one hour drive from where I live. I want to be like Hugh Hefner when I grow up,___O.K. if I grow up. I don't need to see it on TV.

Shania did the half-time show at the recent Grey Cup game. If there was a steel in the band, it wasn't noticeable.
That's the itchyest band I've ever seen.

Regardless...I suppose we should cut her some slack..afterall she is one of the very few that still features Steel on many her records, including her latest.....unlike some of the many many new young.. "Ain't I goodlooking" ... "Look at my muscles" .."ain't I grand"...." How do
ya' like my Hat" ..." I'm a star now" ..How do ya' Like me now ?"...types....

Even though I never watch Half Time shows..I
would rather see her than Toby....or Kenny....or Tim.....or Toby...oh..I already said that....

Super Bowl Half Time..it could be worse..it could be Mariah or Whitney ..again...maybe even Agulera or ..hey how about Brittney ! At least there is some sort of a dotted line to Country Music...naked or not....

Go Jets....
(Former New Yorker here..)
Ok..I'll bare all..been a Jets fan since '65 or so...remember Babe Parelli ?

Tony, you got something against young, nekkid girls masquerading as musicians, then lip-synching at prime-time football games?
Boy, do we have a lot in common!!
And the sad thing, Christina Aguilera can SING! I saw a documentary on her, showed her when she was younger----it just ain't necessary for her(or some of the others)to showcase their talents this way.
But then again, I'm 47 years old, and trying to learn to play steel guitar.

The music is always prerecorded anyway.
I'd rather watch Shania than Michael Jackson.

Oh, Come on, Joey. Shania's pretty but Michael Jackson, weird as he is, is a GREAT performer.

Now, if we can just get MJ to add a steel player to his band...

A legitimate "Superstar" insists on using pedal steel on her recordings and also carry one on her tours , yet she consistently gets "BASHED" on this forum.
The arrogance around here never ceases to amaze me. I recall one thread in the past where Bruce Bouton almost found himself apologizing to some "basher" for the solo he recorded on one of her cuts. Can you imagine a player of Bruces' caliber finding himself in that position
We should be praising not bashing stars like Shania and Garth for bringing the sound of Pedal Steel to many who otherwise would never hear it.

Unfortunately the steel sucks. Amateur licks played behind plastic music. Oh yeah, she is pretty though. Then theres Elizabeth Cook.

Amateur licks! Are you talking about Franklins' work on her latest hit!
I think what he did was genius in its simplicity...exactly what the song needed in my opinion.

Kevin, maybe you should do the arrangements for her, so she can start selling some CDs and working bigger venues.

No doubt Paul was really bummed out to have to fly to the Bahamas to put all those steel parts on Shanias new album. Seems like a pretty good gig to me. BTW Lloyd Green called me when her single came out and complimented Paul for the track he played on that Record. I had people all over town ask who played the steel part. They thought it was different and cool.I wish I'd have played it.Course I probably would've been seriously flamed on this here forum for not being valid enough.

...false statement, period.

Shania does not constantly get "bashed " on this forum. There are many favorable comments about her talent even in this very thread.

One of the functions of this forum is to provide a place where those who choose to do so, may "critique" performers and musicians.

My statement, "that I would not watch the halftime show of the Super Bowl if no steel guitar was in Shania's band" is simply one of fact,___with no arrogance even implied.

I also made another statement of fact that, "I don't need another sex show". I didn't say that you don't need another sex show, BobG, I said that "I don't".

How I wish we were back in the Hee Haw days when only MENSA members listened to country music.

Right you are Dan. How quickly we forget. At what point in time was popular music operating at it's highest intellectual capacity. Duh I'm not so sure myself but let ponder for a few more weeks. Maybe I'll come up with something.
Reminds me of these two brain surgeons. They were in the middle of an incredibly delicate life and death procedure. One of them started getting the shakes. The other said "Relax, this isn't country music we're doing here".

Did you hear the one about the Pedal Steel player who went to a session and told the producer " Hey Boy..I ain't gonna play no amateur licks" and the producer said..

thank you...next player please...

Casey Stengle said to all of his players once...If we all just hit singles everytime we come to bat we will win this game....

or something like that....

And then there were those that couldn't even hit a single now and then..I forgot their names though....

The way I see it is that a session player is a contractor and goes where the work is. If that is on a Shania record then so be it. If the steel guitar is to survive, it has to go where it's called. Most of us on this forum grew up in a different era and want to preserve a certain style of music. We should remember that we were once part of a "new movement" moving through "hillbilly","Rockabilly", "Nashville Sound", "Outlaw Music", etc. I don't hear anyone knocking Elvis because he didn't use a pedal steel. By the way when is the last time you saw a steel in Willie's band? Session players need to take it where it's going. Just some thoughts and comments.

C'mon Rick, Give me a break... The title of this thread on its own merit implies Shania has nothing to offer other than her looks.
If that isn't considered bashing I dont know what it. Are you going to honestly say you weren't putting her down?

you dont consider this statement a "bash" toward Shania? or myself?
