What about Junior Brown?
It may just be that I don't get to visit the forum much anymore, but I never see anything about Junior Brown's playing on here. Some of the things he plays on that "Guitsteel" are quite impressive. Does anyone know if he also plays pedal steel?

Hey, Jake. I think he plays the PSG on his recordings, but I've seen him a couple times at Billy Bobs, and believe me, he doesn't need to. He can play the hell out of that Guit-Steel, and that's about all he does in his concert. That man is the best guitar player I've ever seen. Oh wait, I'm lying. he went and played drums for one song.
The Carter's doing fine. We're gigging up here starting mid January. I'll give you some details about the times and dates.

Jake L-Junior does play pedal steel which can be heard on his CD release "Long Walk Back" (released before Mixed Bag) His pedal steel playing is much influenced by Green,Rugg, and Charleton-he also took delivery of his newly built "guit-steel" when he passed through here a month ago-as far as his project to have built a "guit-pedal-steel" the project was given to Duane Marrs-whom I understand may be modifying an existing Sho-Bud to make the thing for Junior
[This message was edited by PAUL WARNIK on 28 December 2002 at 03:56 PM.]

I've been playing with Red Simpson some lately and in doing some research on old Simpson records,I've stumbled on the fact that Junior's 6-string guitar playing seems to be heavily influenced by the recently deceased Bakersfield picker,Gene Moles. Not taking anything away from J.B. - he's great and totally unique in his own way but everyone has roots. Just an observation. -MJ-
One of my local friends here in Portland that played with him on Austin City Limits said he was kind of "difficult to work around".
S'up Widdat?
He had a raft of albums, and then ?
Listening to "Hillbilly Hula Gal" brought back a big smiling picture of Tennesse Ernie, Speedy West and the boys.. Wonder if he did the steel work on that? Sounded like "pedals" to me.

Heard from an Austin buddy that Jr. got dropped by his label.
He's always been known to be very determined. He'll be back, you can bet on that.
Best of luck to him.

Junior plays a really cool instrument. I'm learning to play lap steel now in addition to pedal steel and I love the sounds of that guit-steel. When I first saw the guit-steel in the "Highway Patrol" video, I didn't know what it was called. The guit-steel is awesome! Brett Day, Emmons S-10, Morrell lap steel
