For any San Diego area players out there. Do any of you know or know of a Steel player named Jud Sandison? He was a very good friend of mine in the late 60's early 70's. I went to see him a few times after he moved down there when he was playing with a guitar player named Lanny something. I lost track of him when I moved to Virginia about 17 or 18 years ago. Any info would be greatly appreciated.........JH

| Aw...Lanny Pruit..Have'nt heard that name in years..Lanny moved to Virginia or some place like that..tenn??Jud still lives here, plays a little, I haven't talked with him for a few years, but he lives around north san diego...I sure someone will chime in on his exact where abouts... |

Can't help you with Jud, Jerry ... but I worked with Lanny Pruitt out of Nashville in the mid-80s. He was working at Gibson and he and his wife opened up a coffee-and-chocolate shop outside of town--Hendersonville, maybe?
Nice guy, good player.

Thanks for the help guys. I remember ol' Jud used to play barefooted and then I think he went to socks only. While he and Lanny were working at a club near the racetrack they worked up some cool instrumentals. One of them was the Allman Brothers "Jessica" on which they both jammed.

I gave Jud his first steel guitar lessons, back in 1970 in Hollywood. He was basically a surfer kid with a way cool old pickup. Later he took lessons from Jerry Stevenson and got into C6 heavy. Then he moved down to San Diego about the time I moved to Texas. Gerry Walker knows him and talks with him from time to time. He's married with kids and has a real job somewheres.

Hey Herb,
Is Gerry Walker the guy who used to play a Telecaster and do a lot of the Elvis tunes?
As far as Jud goes, I didn't know you started him off but the way he turned out you must have started him on the right foot for sure. The guy plays great.......JH

Hey Jerry
I don't know about the Telecaster, but Gerry Walker is the guy who builds the Walker Stereo Steel amp rigs. Both he and Dr. Jim Palenscar know Jud real well.
Jud, incidentally, ALWAYS played without a shoe on his left foot. Drove me nuts.
