Hi, this is Gene.....I don't usually blow my own horn, but I am so proud of a review that I recently received in "SOWHAT" magazine that I just must share it with someone...and who better than my friends on the Forum....This is one of the BEST REVIEWS that I have ever had!....

....THE REVIEW: "I recently had the pleasure of listening to Gene Jones, one of the unknowns of the steel-guitar players world. Expecting to hear just a single-dimensional clone of one of the "greats" of the steel guitar, I was pleasantly surprised at the ability of this player to blindly continue onward in the face of insurmountable odds.

He doesn't play just one style badly...he plays multiple styles badly...jazz, country, rock, you name it,.....and all of them equally bad! This was such an unexpected surprise that I had to acknowledge it. The tentative attack, the indecisive movements by the excessive use of the volume pedal, the unexceptable shriek of the treble settings on his effect unit, and the total absence of bass response and imagination, gave his meager contribuion to the essence of steel-guitar playing a complete and total zero.

This player should not go unnoticed....I give him an honorable mention for effort! Gene Jones should be a shining example and a goal to pursue for those players who aspire to achieve uninspired playing in more than one venue. Gene Jones not only didn't do it first... but, he has totally failed to get there at all...and he has done it with distinction!...."

This is Gene again...I hope that I have not been egotistical in posting this review, but I know that I have many friends here on the Forum and they would want to share with me my happiness at being noticed.

Gene

There was no intent on my post of "sarcasm"
It was meant that we who are aware of Gene's
fine playing ability were happy to see that
someone other than a Forum Member paid such a
nice review of his new CD.We know Gene is a fine steel player,,and Im happy that those outside of this Forum are aware of his exceptional talent paid him such a nice tribute.

Gene as we know him is a gentleman and the epitome of class. If I offended anyone Im sorry.

....It appears that the intent of my post was misunderstood!

....It was intended as "self-effacing satire", nothing more, nothing less! My conscience is clear!

....If my intent had been to diminish anyone's accomplishments.....I would apologize!

....But it wasn't....so I won't!

....However, the subtleness of satire apparently doesn't translate well in written form, so in the future I will make it perfectly clear if I'm "taking a shot" at someone rather than just trying to be funny!

Gene,

it wasn't misunderstood in this household. My wife and are ROTFLOAO. Anyone should be able to see that it was some of that 'self effacing whatever that wuz yu sed".

I think that means making fun of ones self and God knows we need more people in this world that can do that.

Well written, easily read, and funny as hell. I'm a member of that fan club.

Hey folks he has a heck of website too

Touche, Jim!...I'm happy to see that I'm not the ONLY one into satire!......However, the difference between yours and mine is that mine was self directed.

Jody, you stole my thunder. I wuz gonna say I hope he duzn't blow his nose as hard as he blew his horn.

Heck I only live 400 miles southwest of him. It would have been the most moisture we would have seen out here this year.

You guys are ALL nuts...I'm still laughing at some of the comments.....

By the way John, that's a great music clip opening your website. In another context, I would have assumed it was "you know who, playing a you know what" instead of John Sims playing a Carter. Gene

I worry (but only a little) about people who could misinterpret Gene's intent. His message should clearly be an inspiration to steel players like me everywhere.

Someday, but not now, I may try to play something with, oh say 4 chords.
