AS I SEE IT........
The state of the forum is quite good. I personally think that B0b has done a super great job. I can only imagine what a chore it must be to maintain such a forum as this. I would be shivering in my boots if I had to try to do what B0b has done. I have been a member since its early conception, and have seen all the changes, and nowhere on God's green earth is there a better place for steel players of all skill levels to gather and discuss various aspects of the instrument we all love so dearly. Kudos to B0b.
Now, B0b, how about your opinions on the
"State Of The Forum" ? |

This forum is GREAT, bOb is doing a wonderful service to steel players, I can't think of anybody that would disagree with that, (we all agree on everything anyway, right?) ha ha, I don't read the editorial page in the paper anymore, I come here instead, to say the least, steel players are a pretty interesting group of people, what would you expect from people who play such an emotionally loaded instrument, that rivals old british motorcycles for mechanical intricacy |

Agree completely. Not many would be willing to undertake this task, and even fewer would be able to if they tried. |

I think I've been a "user" of this site perhaps without acknowledging Bob and his work. Although I don't remember ever meeting him, I wish to compliment and thank him for this venue. Where else can this many people get daily info about so many areas of interest to steel players and enthusiasts? Thanks Bob.

The steel, being so foreign to the general public or even the mainstream musician, has been kind of a step child or ugly sister. B0b has made it possible to bring us all together under a common roof like nothing else. The old adage that, "There's strength in numbers" was never more true than here in the Forum. My hats off to B0b, thanks, Gary. |

I think that we're in real good shape. I learn something new almost every day from the Forum. A decade ago I thought I knew everything there was to know about steel guitar. Today I know how little I know, and how much more there is to learn.
That said, I wish people would exercise restraint when responding to posts with strong emotional content. Lately I have had to watch things very closely - too closely, as a matter of fact. Most of the problems could be avoided if people treated each other on the Forum with the same civility that they use in person.
Remember that there are real people on the other side of the screen, and that those people have feelings too.

bOb,
You've created a veritable storehouse of knowledge about the steel guitar, since everything is archived. It it impossible for me to express how useful the information from this forum has been to me.
Many heartfelt thanks for your commitment to this forum and the steel guitar. Perhaps, someday, YOU'LL be in the Hall of Fame for your contribution. You've got my vote!

bOb, as one of those guys who doesn't know when to shut up(sometimes), I gotta agree with these other guys. This is a great Forum, an invaluable learning area, and a source of general knowledge, not to be found ANYWHERE else on the web.
Just when I was about to post, on the ravings of myself and others, and the lack of civility that folks say have driven the old-time, more knowledgable players away, here comes this thread, like prayed-for rain.
I need to shut up and listen, maybe add a little something in "Electronics," and just LEARN! So I promise to try.
And Ray Montee, I'd like to apologize to you, if I've offended you in any way.
May God's love, and peace, be in us all! |

I love the Forum and think it is just great.
I am much too addicted to it. The only thing that I would like to see change is the way some verbally lambast others. I see things posted that I very strongly disagree with and some things that are so foolish that I just choose to ignore. But, with that said, there are so many great people on here and I have been helped in so many ways by these folks and have had a change on ocassion to help someone else in return. I would love to see all the good guys just consider the source on the rare times that someone seems to want to cause trouble and just don't bother to respond. Most of the guys are absolutely great and it really is a downer to see when someone goes beyond being reasonable in their treatment of others. I think we sometimes forget that this is a world wide thing and read by thousands of people. Thank you so much for the Forum b0b.

Isn't there something about a "golden rule" ?
I seem to see things said here sometimes that wouldn't get said "face to face"! Not if the "other person" was bigger than you, anyway!!!! A friend of Bobbe's grandfather, (my Dad) once told me after Dad had passed away....You know the thing I liked most about your Dad was the fact that we could argue to the point that a stranger might expect us to come to blows soon and yet we could walk away and know that we were still the best of friends and would always respect
the others right to his own opinion!! AMEN |

Glad you brought that up uncle Doug, this is how I feel about everyone I've ever argued with on the forum. But I'm still hacked at you for the time in 1943 when we were playing hide-and-seek and it was three days before you came to look for me!! (1943?)

I for one, intend to apply some of the manners and courtesy I've gained from the Forum in the last few weeks. Hard to teach an old guy new tricks ??? Nawwww !!

Al
Rumor has it that bOb will be sending out report cards, anyone who overides the rules
will be left back.
I wonder if there will be a category for dummies?? "DUH" Im sure I'll get in on that.
I often wondered how many locks bOb has,? he keeps locking things up..I hope Im paroled.Im
in for it,,bread and water.
bOb is a fine human being to put up with my antics, and for that I have to take my hat off to him. But since I dont wear a hat,,I can only say he is most tolerant and understanding and a mild mannered gentleman &I salute him for that.
He has made many hours enjoyable for me and all of you as well.
Sure I wanted to quit many times,,but to leave bOb?? why should I make life easier for him, only kidding bOb,,keep your lock in your pocket. Im not ready to leave. |
