Nice meeting you on Friday night, Marty. I haven't seen you draw 'em out like this since the OTB days. 
There was truely lots of great playing. Forgive me for stating the obvious, but you needn't tear down others to build up the legendary Lloyd Green. The thing I liked best about Lloyd's Friday set is that he played all country stuff.
Jeff Newman always talks a good bit, inserts comedy into the act, and always badgers the band. It's part of the act. First time witnesses always react as Marty's wife did.

My post didn't tear anyone down in order to elevate another. It stated some serious observations about the direction (or lack thereof) and evolution of pedal steel playing.
It's not about who's a nice guy or who dresses a certain way or equipment choices or, for that matter, how 'tasteless' someone's show is; but about the nature of accomplishment and direction for the future. The pedal steel allow us to change pitch(es) while sustaining notes and chords. THAT is the fundamental point and THAT is what is taken to its highest form in LG's playing and THAT is what is being overlooked or underutilized by most of the other players. Tommy does it as well as anyone I've heard yet, but still...
I know it's subjective to a degree, "I LIKE to use the pedals only to change from the I to the IV to the V so I don't have to move the bar around."
Fine, do it that way; alot of us are interested in the musical advantages (or maybe uniqueness would be a better word) provided by the mechanical aspects of the pedals and levers. |

Theresa, I applaude you, also David.
Please, stand up against "steelguitar and music lover" that make it a pissing contest. Lioyd Green is a icon, I agree, but there are a few more.
Jeff N is an Icon in teaching and a true ambassador of steelguitar, and his aproach is nice to a lot of people. Maybe this is not realy your piece of cake, but this guy shure knows what he is doing.
Please keep this critic warm and nice

I just read my wife's post. I think she is the best. However in the heat of discussion she left off Maurice Anderson, Paul Franklin and a list of influences too long to name.

Marty, what is your problem? It is not so much your opinions that people take offense to. It's your offensiveness. I've seen many of your other posts and it seems that you get off on insulting and trashing everything and every one. And you get a kick out of it... How perverse!

There is a line uttered by Max Von Sydow in the movie Hannah and Her Sisters which states "If Jesus Christ knew what was being done in His name, he wouldn't stop vomiting for a week."
I believe that if Lloyd knew that his playing and style was being used to negatively reflect on the playing or tuning of choice of his colleagues and friends, he'd feel the same way.

| Herb, I think this whole thing is more funny than anything else. I can't imagine that LG, BE, JH, or anyone else of that kind of caliber would possibly care what some of the nobodies on this thread happen to think of their playing. These guys have played the biggest venues, with the biggest artists, in front of thousands and thousands of people at times, and have played at the convention in front of the most critical observers on many occasions. I think you are a pathetic, ego-laden little(in every sense of the word)man, who is using the anonimity of this Forum to stir up controversy. Jeff and Stephen....posts like this are quite likely the reason we're seeing fewer and fewer posts by the truly great steel guitar giants. Thanks for your perspective.

Ray, you're absolutely correct. Marty shouldn't have started this thread, and I should not have responded as I did. However, after reading his previous thread concerning the C6 neck, and then this one, I decided to respond. My language, too strong, and I apologize. My opinion, my entitlement, and I will maintain it, albeit privately.
