Did anyone happen to see Bruce on TV the other morning. There was a pedal steel set up on the stage. I only caught one tune before I had to leave for work, but apparently the show was 3 hours long. Did anyone see Nils Lofgren actually playing it.

You can see him play it on the dvd concert from New York City. He only plays it on a couple of tunes. While by no stretch of the imagination is it bad, it's nothing to jump up and down and shout about.

The fact that hundreds of thousands of people are going to be exposed to the steel guitar through him is something to jump up and down and shout about.

The song that featured steel on the HBO special was "Mansion On The Hill".

Not the Hank Williams "Mansion On The Hill" that Buddy recorded on the "ISGC 77" Album.

I suspect it's a Springstein original.
Basic but Pretty Steel Solo.

I wonder if he was influenced by Ben Keith back in his days with Neil Young. To be honest, I've never heard Nils play steel. I really like his guitar playing on Young's "Tonight's the Night" album, though.

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band will be on David Letterman tonight (Thursday). Just maybe we will get lucky, and Nils Lofgren will play his Carter.

Maybe someday on this forum we'll celebrate him for his efforts as much as we do another guy that did the same thing only in a bigger way: Jerry Garcia.
