I am lucky enough to stand in with an excellent British country band on bass & the guy who plays steel is a guy by the name of Pete Heywood. This guy was described as one of Britains top steelies. The British guys among us will know Pete but I was wondering if any of you other guys have heard him play.Pete & Ken Byng are two of the reasons i love the pedal steel guitar.

You're indeed fortunate!

Have you run across Moe Kabir? He just acquired a NEW Bigsby steel! Great picker!

Is that the same Moe who plays doghouse for the Extraordinaires? Now there's a stageshow you shouldn't miss! Sorta doo-wop and jump blues, 3 singers dancing and doing cartwheels and such. A complete blast, and after talking to Moe (a great guy) I have no doubt that he's gonna be a steel player to watch out for.

Colin, is he the fellow who plays left-handed? I once saw an Everly Bros clip filmed in England that had someone doubling on a tele (2nd to Albert Lee) and a left handed steel.

Ray M-Moe took delivery of "P.A. Re-issue" number 6 formerly owned by Junior Brown when he and his band passed though here weekend before last-we added 5 pedals to the formerly non pedal guitar for him-PW

Pat,

The left-handed guitarist you saw was Martin Jenner. The band assembled for the Everly's Reunion concert in '83 at London's Albert Hall was chiefly drawn from Cliff Richard's touring guys. I believe this was due to Phil Everly's association (and 'hit' duet) with Cliff earlier that year. Albert Lee was the exception, and was included due to his long association with Don over the years.

Although Martin was, at that time (by his own admission), a rudimentary steel-player, I wonder if his contribution that night prompted Don to ultimately include Buddy Emmons in their touring band....

It's interesting to note that, from that origional line-up, only Albert and pianist Pete Wingfield 'survived' with the Everlys until their hiatus last year. It's also notable that the whole band, apart from Buddy, were English right until the end.

A lot of you guys won't know Sir Cliff Richard - he's something of an institution in the UK (as his title might suggest!) and always had the very best of players in his band, as well as an interminable string of 'hit' records....

Both Albert & Buddy use to play with Don at the Sundance Saloon in Calabassas Ca. back in the mid 70's when Buddy still lived in LA.

Hey there COLIN: Just chatted with my pal Moe in England and he says to feel free to look him up at moe_kabir@bt.com
He's a fun guy to be sure and is heavily into steel guitar. (See Paul's note at the bottom of this post!)

And Chris.......you are right on! Moe is one and the same guy I was referring to...and you have the name of the band correct as well. Didn't know he was left handed but I guess that's okay, eh?

Paul.......Moe was red hot to share the great news about his new Bigsby. Glad you two were able to make connections, put together the guitar of Moe's dreams and then actually get to meet during his recent visit to Wisconsin. Such a deal. Not only is he a world traveler.....but now has a Bigsby too.

This Forum continues to amaze me. It makes this world a really, really small place in which to live.

Ray-I have been e-mailing and chatting on the phone with Moe for what seems years now and all the while he has been wanting a Bigsby-or the reasonable facsimilie there of that we build-so when this guitar came back Moe had jump on it because he was first on my list to get one next-So it was good to meet up with him in person-although it was a short visit-and by the way-Dave and I have committed to building two more triple neck eight string "P.A. Re-Issue" guitars-these will likely be the last two that we will be able to make-with critical original parts running out-like the first seven that we made these will likely be spoken for before we even get done building them

Paul....so nice to learn of your Bigsby successes. Moe...from England...has been one of the strongest promoters of Bigsby steel guitars for the past decade. So glad he got one from you. He's so thrilled, he can hardly talk. Here's a guy that has been in the homes and spent days with the likes of Joaquine Murphy, Speedy West and who knows all the other greats with whom he established such close, personal contact. He goes all over the world to play one-night stands and I can't get a pickin' job down the street or around the corner. Oh well.

Colin, Funnily enough I saw Pete at around 15/16 years ago playing in all places - Heywood in Lancashire. Shame but I never did get to speak with him.He was/is a good player and had some very nice licks. He might have guessed at the time I was into steels as I never took my eyes off him all night.

Bob Mainwaring. Z.Bs. and other weird things.

Hi Ray,i will E-mail moe see if i can't get along to see him,it's good of him to take the time to chat,Bob, that could have been an early incarnation of the band he's with now, i believe they've been going for something like 16 years. If you know anyone in England how may have a copy get hold of the Poacher album it has some real flash steel on it,as well as special effects(police sirens on hot rod lincoln, all done on steel) regards- colin
