"Yodie",
The old case it came to me in had Corky Owens name stinciled in several places. Doug Boggs, who you know, and who played drums with Gene Watson for 13 or so years said Corky bought it new (he thinks) in about '70 or '71.
It was black when I got it and was in need of repair. So I just decided to redo the whole thing and make it fire engine red. Every nut, bolt, screw and piece of the guitar was taken apart including the cabinet. For those that don't know, all Emmons guitar cabinets (double necks and maybe the 3/4 bodies too. I'm not sure about those) are two pieces screwed together. If you get technical, I guess you could call them 4 piece cabinets counting the front and back aprons. But they are glued on and I didn't want to separate those aprons from the tops.
Mark Giles did one hell of a job putting the new formica back on and after I rebuffed all the metal (which was really scared up), I have to admit, the old guitar looks pretty darn good and also plays pretty darned good. Last Sunday at the Jerry Nail benefit was the second gig I had played on it. You know the adverse conditions that day and it held up like a charm.
After Steve Palusik played his set with Frenchie Burk on his LeGrande He jammed on it for about an hour and said he never knew a push pull could play that good and easy. It had better action than his LeGrande, and his LeGrande plays like soft butter. I'm way more than pleased with it and it's sound. I consider myself very fortunate to have this guitar in my possession.
Like Herb Steiner is with his PP's, It's not for sell. At least not cheap! It would take "several pretty pennies" for me to even give consideration.
BTW, I play kinda' a DAY setup and Steve plays an Emmons' set up. After about two or three minutes of listening to him, you'd never know it. Man, what a player he is!
Thanks for the compliments Jody. I'm sure proud of it in a humble way.

I was telling Tommy White (also a Day man !!)
the other day: Why did I ever change ??

I know it isn't the majority thing but lost here in Georgia, I thought I was the only one left in the world who used a Day set-up.

I sure hope that isn't the first sign of senility !!

Regretably, Paul

Hey Paul,
I wrote a song one time. My inspiration was the "Day" set up. It was called, "A Rainy DAY in Georgia"..... ! Damn,,,,,if I had only been playing a "night" set up.!!!!!!!!!

Bobby: It's funnier than you think. Back in Extended Family I wrote a tribute to my former Boss man here in Georgia. His name:

John KNIGHT !

I spent many a rainy night with John in Warner Robins, Georgia. I asked him one time why he sings the same songs every weekend. He replied: We'll do 'em til you get 'em right !!

Regards, Paul

Hey, Bobby. I don't remember owning a Emmons PP, but if I did, could I have it back? Somebody shoot me for getting rid of it. I would love to see it sometime. Sounds like a beautiful guitar. I hope to own another one some day. Take care. Corky.
