The band is Dana Lee Wehrmann and the Ranger Band. Dana's from Bulverde, Tx just north of San Antonio. He lives near Quihi, Tx now. The band is rather diverse as he uses available musicians for different gigs. Rick on steel and Smiley on drums are pretty much regulars. Tommy Haslett on bass is too. Pretty traditional music, shuffles , waltzes. Sometimes Travis Matheny and others. Cool Band.

Rick Price is one of my heros. He is a monster player, and always has a good story and a joke or two. I love to play with Dana's band when Rick can't make it. And once not too long ago I played guitar in that band with Rick on steel, but I couldn't hit my !@#$% because I was watching and listening to him so closely!

"Kwee-hee" is where Dana lives. One of those "only in Texas" town names.

Worked with Darrell at a private party a couple of weeks ago down in South Texas right at the end of the flood-rains. One of those "night porch" parties on a private ranch. It was a lot of fun and put on by some great folks down there. It was hot and humid and these large mosquitos were landing and munching on us the whole time. Rick played his dang tail off through it all. Awesome tone and incredible precision, like always. It was a real pleasure. He never missed anything and he totally blew me away. He's definitely a pro's pro AND a legend. Bobby

I remember Rick when he first came to Nashville.: 1969. He wasn't there long, and went to work for Stonewall Jackson. Stonewall did a live album at the Ryman that Rick played on. I haven't seen Rick in years, but I've always admired his playing. He is also a good friend, who I've sort of lost track of down through the years. I called his home in SanAntonio a couple of years ago, when we were there working. He was out of town at the time, but I talked to his wife for a while on the phone. Rick deserves more recognition than he's gotten. I agree with Tommy. He is one fine player.

Rick DOES deserve more recognition! He keeps threatening to retire from his day job and go back to picking, but they keep offering him more bucks and he stays on... one of these days they're gonna wise up to his little racket!
I keep trying to get Rick to go to the steel shows, a he did a couple of times. But he always gets a gig those weekends... usually filling in for me!
A complete monster, IMHO.
