Steel shop in Chicago?
Hey guys,
I was wondering if anyone knew a good steel shop in Chicago. I'm touring and I need to restock my supplies. Any help greatly appreciated. CH

Thanks guys. I'll be passing through on the 18th, but I'm playing on the 2nd and 3rd at the Riviera with Preston School of industry, supporting Wilco, which I'm very excited about. If any of you Nashville types would like to see a punk kid hack the steel, we'll be at the Uptown Mix on the 24th, again with Wilco. I guess I'll wait till then to get strings n such. Any recommendations in Nashville would be great, too. Thanks again. CH

I don't know if it's on your way or not, but I have two stores in Champaign-Urbana, IL (120miles straight south of Chicago)and we stock steel stings, volume pedals, George L's cables, tuning wrenches, picks, bars, etc. Jay Bennett, former member of Wilco lived here for years, I got to play steel on a couple of his demos a few years ago. Sounds like you got a pretty cool gig

Chris,
Ed Mooney who is on the forum has a shop in north Chicago (almost Evanston). He stocks a couple of Sierra guitars, but I do not know any other details. The name of the store is Flatts and Sharpe music. Try giving him a call or email him off the forum.
BTW...I will be at the Aug 2nd show at the Riviera. Maybe I'll get a chance to say hey.

Hey thanks fellas for the info. Dyke I wonder if you know an English professor/song writer in Urbana by the name of Steve. I can't remember his last name, but he and I have been having alot of weird coincidences, so I wouldn't be surprised if you did. If not I'll send him in. Jay B. is what we call a "talented individual." Also Mark, I'll be around to chat, so we'll see ya then. Thanks again. CH
