I'm ashamed to admit it but after all the years I spent in Texas and Oklahoma, I don't know who Dusty Stewart is. I don't think I have even heard the name before....Would you care to enlighten me a bit ?? I'd certainly could use a lot of enlightenment !!

Regards, Paul

Paul, I'm as clueless as you are on that one. But I'm sure someone else can enlighten us both on it. Might be best to start a new thread with the question, though, since many people may not check in to see what '??' you wanted to ask me.

Take care,
Jimbeaux

Last I heard, Dusty was still playing at the Liberty Opry (the old Park Theater) in Liberty, Texas. I believe he started playing steel back in the '50s, with Hank Thompson's Band. He also played at the T.S.G.A. show a few years back.

Jim: I must be lucky !! Got two e-mails from Texas from folks who knew Dusty and as Donny said, he's one of the originals. I think I'll hear some more but he is from south Texas and is still playing as best they know. Got a GFI 3 years ago so he's a pedal man as well. Maybe Gene Fields will pop in here and tell us some more about him......

The actual question I had was based on a post by Jim in Buy & Sell about an HT album with Curly Chalker and Dusty playing steel on it.

Regards, Paul

Hey Paul......there is no mistake on that particular Hank Thompson project.....to which steel player (Dusty or Curly) was playing on which tracks.....???
If your not sure I can tell you. Dusty played great......but Curly was doing stuff on the non-pedal steel....that still has'nt been played yet to date......ah....ha.
Curly was the most Monsterous non-pedal player and sooooooo out spoken.....and as much as I admired and loved his pedal steel playing......I prefer to listen to when he played NON-pedal steel........WOW.
Dusty's brother also played Fiddle on that project.......am I right on that Herb????

Dusty is still playing in the East Texas area. I last saw him about 4-5 years ago playing with Gil Baca's band (pronounced "BAH-cha"). Gil and his brother Kermit were both Brazos Valley Boys (piano and drums respectively) back in the early 50's.

Yes, he does play pedals now and is a relatively contemporary-style player, and quite good.

While I treasure the many years I spent overseas with Uncle Sam and the USAF, I sure missed a lot. Some of it may be gone forever like this album. I wish I could have heard it but like Jim posted: It was sold in the night while he slept !! With what Ricky and Herb have posted, I know I may have missed something important... Ricky and Herb, Donny and Jim: It is a nice feeling to know that people of your stature read the words I post. That is a nice warm feeling and I respect each of you for being there

Regards, Paul

That's exactly what I said to the other guy this morning while I was shaving !!

Quite frankly Donny; I recognize your understanding of steel guitar and electronics, especially speakers, and in my book that sets you on a higher pedestal !!
There are members whose every post is a must full reading for me. You are one of those !!

Best Regards.\, Paul
