A "MUST" read, regardless of your feelings
First let me apologize to our wonderful forum leader. He is going to kill me for this, but I don't care.
This morning I was in the shower and a thought came into my head. "Why don't we steel players pay for b0b to go to the ISGC this labor day weekend?"
"If just 100 members of this forum sent him, just $25.00 bucks, he could go in style. IE, plain fare, hotel bill, show price, program price, food and still have some left over for a goody or two!"
Well, when I signed on a little later, lo and behold there was an email from b0b. Now this was unusual cuz I don't get too many from him. And when I do it thrills my heart.
I felt that it was a sign from Jesus that my earlier thoughts should be followed up on.
So, I shot back an email. And asked if he was going to ISGC this year. He sent back an email and said, no but he was thinking about going to The PSGA show.
Wow, that is just as good for our purpose.
SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.....
Friends, beloved (and enemies alike), LET's DO IT!!
What say ye?!!!
Why don't at least 100 of us send b0b $25.00 bucks (or what ever you can afford); and in a miniscule way give him back just a little of what he has soo graciously given to all of us?
What say ye?
I think it would be wonderful for us to have an opportunity to do it up great for him. Just think $2500 bucks to let him go first class if he wants. A 4 and a half hour plane trip from CA to NY is tiring enough. Course that is up to him. If he doesn't mind coach, fine.
I am confident Bob Maickel could help to arrange a fine room for him (at our cost), and anything else that would make our forum leader enjoy a gift from us.
Maybe have some forum member (or two) pick him up at the airport so he would not have to go thru the hassle of getting to the hotel on a taxi or limo, etc.
What say ye?
Think about it?
Course b0b is soooooo humble he might delete this post. Or say, No! And that is his prerogative.
But if he was akind to it, I believe it would be just one small token of appreciation for all he has done for all of us. MY check is IN the mail.
What say ye?
God bless b0b, and all of you,
carl

My dear friend, Carl,
You are Truly a man of Integrity, and a great man of God, and I have the utmost respect for you and your love of your fellow man. Let me see what I can contribute to this wonderful man, our friend, Mr. BoB.
What a wonderful idea, Carl. (Wish I had thought of it myself) Oh, and BTW, where do I send my Buck-or-2? I cannot send much, but, every dollar counts, you know.
Let me know more details, via-E-mail.
Your friend,
Ron Preston

I feel we should simply send it to b0b. After all it is for HIM!
Let him decide just how to spend it, without any "committee rules" and "pressure(s)". He put NO pressure on us to join or partake in this forum. His rules are miniscule. He did not charge us one dime!
So intstead of a fund. Let's just all send him the $25 (or whatever one can afford) and let him have the time of his life, with NO care about having to spend his own money. And with absolutely NO strings attached.
IMO, that is the least we can do for him.
ONLY 3 men in the history of our beloved instrument have dedicated their all to bringing others joy with our incredible steel guitar:
DeWitt Scott
Jeff Newman
and now,
our very own,
b0bby Lee
I can only hope he accepts it with our fondest appreciation and love for what he ALONE has brought to us. Very few people would have taken on this dedication and expense.
Let's do it folks.
And one final suggestion. There may be some who don't read this thread (after all MY name is listed as its creator-enuff said).
So, if you know a forum member or you see one, that has not posted, ya might send them an email and ask them to at least read the thread. Where they might not have otherwise. For obvious reasons.
Send a check made out to Bobby Lee in care of:
Steel Guitar Forum
148 South Cloverdale Blvd.
Cloverdale, CA 95425
USA
I would NOT make the check out to The Forum. b0b may have a corporation or company set up and this might cause him some paperwork problems. We don't want that. This should be for HIM alone.
What say ye?
God bless you all,
carl

Carl, next time we meet I'm gonna kill you! All this and you still haven't answered my question!
Folks, I'm quite capable of making it to the PSGA show under my own steam. I mention in passing to Carl that I might be going this year, and he blows it up like this!
If you folks have money to spend, I suggest that you send it to the Big Jim Murphy account instead. He really needs it right about now:
James W. Murphy Benefit Foundation Account
P.O. Box 17965
Antioch, TN 37217
Watch out, Carl! I'm gonna figure some way to get even wid ya.

Carl, you do realize that if Bobby Lee comes to St. Louis, you have to also! You haven't been since 1998 (or 99) and it's time overdo that you grace us with your presence.(...and your signature hat) Now, will we see the BOTH of you at St. Louis? I certainly hope so! I look forward to seeing both of you again.
Mike you are very kind. But actually b0bby is not going to StLouis. He is thinking about going to the NY show Later.
Let's let everyone know how much we want this to happen. He is being his usual modest and wonderful self. But there comes a time when even, "he that is least among you shall be the greatest"
And them aint my words. The man that made them walked on water.
God bless you,
carl
