You know,we are all dealin` and wheelin` here and horse trading and agreeing and arguing and all that stuff, but I wonder how did you (Bob) come up with an idea to start something like "Steel guitar forum"?Did anyone asked that question before?Who are you?Can you tell us little bit more about yourself? What do you do?Where do you play?Where in California do you live? How long it took for this forum to get as big as it is right now?You have some big names here showing up and discussing the things about steel guitars. If this forum was work of some of these "BIG" names I wouldn`t be suprised, but "BOB"?Who is "Bob"?Unbelievable work Bob,I decided to stop for a second with my buying and selling and talking about big players, and ask you some questions that I would like to know.Nothing bad,I`m just curious.Great job.Keep on with a good work and thank you for having me here

Hey, Ray, Bob Seymour was my brother and a fine musician and piano man. His first born
is Bobbe Seymour (probably of whom you speak)
picker and personality of Steel Guitar Nashville and I'm gonna pay him a visit soon
@ his new store which I haven't seen. Hope to meet Brandy....I even saw a guy asking Bobbe to have her e-mail him again because he was lonely. Heck I'm lonely, too, and she hasn't even e-mailed me the first time yet!
I also hope to see Hoot & Johnny (& his triple neck Zum!) There's still a lot to go to Nashville for even if the "Poprie" has changed since Gaylord took the reins? |

Okay, here's my little history. I've been playing steel guitar since 1972. In the mid 1980's, I got hooked on a hobby called BBSing. Hobbiests like myself set up computers with modems at home, and we accepted calls from the general public (one call at a time). These "Bulletin Board Systems" provided a great source of community entertainment for the (mostly local) callers. I ran several successful BBS's, including one for my employer, and programmed a BBS of my own design called 'b0badel'. BBSing was a lot of fun.
Fast forward to the Internet age. In early 1995 I got connected to the Internet, and promply put up my own web site. I usually connected through AOL, which had a steel guitar forum of sorts. After a while I got fed up with the AOL's (lack of) service, and hooked up with a local carrier. Of course, this meant that I no longer had access to the great steel discussions that were going down on AOL. Over Christmas vacation in 1996, I put together a little "hobby BBS" on the Internet. It took off like a rocket!
I really never expected it to get this big or this well established. Looking back I've realized that my background as a steel player, BBS sysop and computer programmer had primed me for this, the greatest thing to happen in my life. I believe that a guiding hand from above played a significant role in the directions my life has taken. It seems that the Almighty really likes steel guitar music!
By the way, my online handle has been 'b0b' since I started BBSing in 1983. One of the first systems I logged on to already had a 'Bob', so I decided to spell my name with a zero. I use the name 'Bobby Lee Quasar' on stage, but the 'Quasar' part is just made up. I like it because it's such an improbable last name, and yet some people believe it!
I never heard of this Bobbe Seymour guy until he joined the Forum. Maybe some day I'll meet him face-to-face.

Amen, brother.
b0b, maybe you should put up a link on your homepage and the Forum entry page to a history of yourself and the Forum--basically what you said above, perhaps with elaboration. It really is very interesting!

Thought I'd put in my Thoughts.
b0b is a great steel player. I have had the pleasure of sharing the stage with him many times and enjoyed his playing and his sense of humor.
He was very helpful to me getting me started with the pedal steel.
He was employed as a tech at Mesa,Boogie co.
when he played in my band, so I am not surprised that he embraced the technologies that got him to start this forum.
We all enjoy your creation, b0b and thank you for it.

I thought I was Bob. Kind of strange how that name Bobby works. As soon as we started playing, I was Bobby, and as soon as we quit, I was Bob again. The only one who calls me Bobby all the time is my Sugar Booger of 47 years, Meri.
And b0b, keep up the good work. We still haven't come close to getting settled after our move, so I haven't had much time to be on the puter but I sure do enjoy it when I do. Bunch of nice folks on here and I say that from the heart.

b0b;
Owning the forum is, I'm sure at times, a thankless (and expensive) job. What you have done is incredible! My hat's off to you my friend!
BTW: What nationality is "Quasar?"

I looked up "quasar" in the dictionary once. It said "a radioactive stellar object". I thought "Gee, I'd kinda like to be a radio star", so I took the name.
