I was -very sorry- to hear about Big Jim Murphy's illness - my thoughts and prayers go out to him - but also looking forward to seeing Asleep at the Wheel here in Las Vegas July 6th, 2002 (Silverton Hotel and Casino) and wondering who the interm steel player is/will be? Anyone know?

Murph was playing with them on CMT's MWL this past Friday, so maybe he is back to playing with them full time. Smiley would know for sure.

Possibly could be Cindy Cashdollar. I personally liked their sound back when John Ely played with the Wheel. I now have John old 66' Emmons P/P, Great Guitar! I pray for "BIG MURPH" to have a speedy recovery. Nick

Murph is back out with the Wheel now and will probably work until his next chemo treatment.

He has a cancer called Berketts Lymphoma and just received his first chemo treatment about 2 weeks ago. He has moved back to Nashville and is staying at a friends condo to continue his treatments for the rest of the summer. He is well enough now to continue playing with the Wheel even though he is a little weak.

Thanks for all the responses - as a side note: my former daughter in law had the same illness that is troubling Big Jim and over an eight month period, all the various treatments worked well and there was (and still is) no sign of the disease - I pray the same goes for Big Jim.

I saw Asleep at the Wheel on June 11 at a private function in Dallas and Tom Morrell was playing steel.
