Susan Alcorn on the net

Post by fraser »

Not sure if this has been covered already or not. Given Susan Alcorn's announcement about a experimental pedal steel guitar concert in Texas, I thought I might search the net to see if there were any audio clips of her. I came across a recording of her at an experimental music festival in London. It was really cool, like eavesdropping on the concert. The sound was good, there were no delays due to buffering and it appeared there might be at least an hour's material available ( I haven't listened to the whole thing yet ). The address is http://www.l-m-c.org.uk/audio/festival2001.html - click on susan's name.

Thank you Susan.

Thank you for your kind comments, Fraser (Fraser from Seattle -- I won't touch that). The concert will be held in Albuquerque, New Mexico, not Texas.

Though it's billed as an "Avant Steel Summit", I feel a little uncomfortable with that title, because, at least for me, I don't feel very "avant", and I cringe at the connotations of that word. To me a good musician always tries play to from the heart, and follows his or her muse, wherever that leads. In that way there is no "avant-garde" or "conventional" - however useful those terms may be at times. You simply become that which you have always been, the center (which of course reaches to others) of your own unique musical universe and all the beauty, terror, love, compassion and warmth that it entails.
