With regard to Mike Johnson's studio sessions, does anyone know what brand of steel he uses in the studio? He has, to me, a fabulous sound.
Thanks,

Hopefully Mike will correct me if I am wrong, but I believe he uses a Franklin and some combination of rack gear in the studio. Live, I most often see him play his red Emmons with a Nashville 400. As you can imagine, he sounds fabulous using any combination of the above.
I wanna be like Mike, :-)

I was in the studio with mike about a year and a half ago when he was playing on my friend John Rich's album. He was playing a black Franklin through a Boogie studio pre, mossvalve power amp and some more toys. Very simular rig to what Paul plays through. He said that he uses that rig in the studio but still plays his red emmons when he does the opry and other shows of the sort.

I think that his red Emmons was sold to him from Clem Shmitz. Clem asked me if I wanted that guitar and I foolishly bought a Legrande instead. Darn. |

Reggie,
That would be the John Rich formerly with Lonestar. This I know because I was with Jeremy at the studio that day. What a treat to get to hear Mike as he recorded. Another treat was the talented and VERY pretty Chaliee Tennison came in for a visit that day. If I wern't married I'd dun rund oft with her!

Nick,
Unfortunately No... Otherwise I would have enough money to get a newer steel than I've got now!

I love his work on Paisley's CD's, He's
got some great idea's and can execute them
beautifully, Mike's a monstar.
Gaylon , I heard a cut of hers at a friends
studio, my goodness can Chaliee sing, Sounded
like Sonny Garrish on the steel, which was
also pretty cool, Greg
