I've been listening to Bob Hoffnar's new CD, "Music for Pedalsteel Guitar" and enjoy it very much. It is beautiful. Bob has an intuitive and deep understanding of the tonality behind late twentieth century classical music, he has good technique and he plays with a rich full tone. And his timing - he knows how to hit the notes just "so" - in the sense that allows minimalist music to breath and develop a sense of continuity. His treatment of Benjamin Britten's "Canto Primo" is simply gorgeous. The CD was recorded live in a cathedral and the notes really ring out.
I would recommend this CD for anyone who is interested in New Music and anyone who likes wonderful music played on the pedal steel guitar. |

| I enjoyed Bob's CD as well. I plan to listen to it a 2nd time tomorrow as I paint the living room ceiling. Last week I washed the ceiling and walked off the end of the piano bench while listening to Brahms. I hope Bob's CD feels better. |

On the serious side, for someone from NY, I've always felt that Hoffnar boy, from the posts he makes, Is an alright feller.
Can't buy one right though. You know how women are about buying things when you're building a new house.

Now wait just a minute. What do you mean by "For someone from New York..."? Just because we live in the Big Apple we cain't play steel as well as y'all in the hinterlands? I'm just kidding. Am curious what Bob from Flagstaff meant by that just the same. I look forward to hearing Bob Hoffnar's s record very soon; he is one of New York's Finest to be sure, and was kind enough to give me some lessons and guidance when I was getting started. Hope the tour with Kyle is going well Bob!!

I really enjoyed Bob's CD as well, at first I had the urge to paint my livingroom ceiling, but instead I cleaned up my '73 Cadillac and sold it.

Brahms will do that to you, you may want to switch to Xenakis.

I went to see Bob last friday night when the group he is touring with played in Portland.
He really sounded great!!!
He used several different tones over the course of the set (or song) and really impressed me with his musical taste with respect to what to play and where to play it.
His Franklin sounded very cool through his THD rig!
I had a chance to talk with him for a few minutes on his break and bought a CD but haven't had a chance to listen to it yet.
Nice work with the band Bob!

I'm just selling CDRs at gigs right now. When I get home from this tour I'll figure out what I want to do about selling them.
I'll make sure to get some to the forum catalog. The indie rock kids are buying lots of my Cds out here.

Hi Bob,
Count me in to buy one of those CDs when you get back to NYC! Sounds like it's getting some rave reviews.
Hope you're having fun with the indie kids on tour. If you're back in town by March 10th you should come check out my debut playing with a live band at some bar in Park Slope. Hopefully I can put all those lessons to good use.

This is my favorite CD featuring the steel guitar these days. I love it. My dogs love it. And those indie fans have no idea what will happen to their minds. I'm not going to recommend this CD, in that most of the forumites will hate it, but it is in rotation on my CD changer.
