Reggie: That was a very nice interpetation of a famous Christmas song. Many, many times we have read here about someone giving advice to be your own sound and do your own thing. I'd say this is a very good example of that advice being well taken.

Too often I find myself listening for this or that sound but I couldn't do it with this recording because it wasn't there. It was a new work by someone I've not had the chance to hear before and as such was the proverbial breathe of fresh air. I particularly like the counterpoint harmony used in the second half and a lot of the chord resolutions in the first half are unique to say the least. If I was rating it I'd have to give it 5 stars !!

I enjoyed this well thought out piece. Very interesting and fresh approach to an old standard. Very mellow timbre....

I don't know how I missed this thread but it has been my loss up to now! Reggie, that is wonderful! It damn near made me wish for snow and I hate winter. Where do you find the CD?

By the way, those of you who haven't listened to this are missing good, honest, genuine steel guitar.

This is certainly a great rendition of a classic. Reggie certainly sounded great on this, and all the other cuts on the CD. Plus, this is Christmas music, and as we all know, Christmas music can be TOUGH to do well!

I'm the one who encoded and put the file online for Reggie, so maybe I can answer a question or two.

1. Reggie sent me the CD to take the songs from, so yes, it is available on CD.

2. Smiley, the only thing I can think of why you may be having a problem is because you are using WebTv...I don't know how well that works with realaudio.

3. Reggie frequently posts on the Christian steel guitar message board that I started a while back. You can get in touch with him through that. It can be found HERE

4. Gene and anyone else, I used the latest version of realproducer to encode these songs, so you'll need the latest version of realplayer to hear them.

If you go to the above link, Reggie posts there as "Sonny Duncan", and also if you'll visit the Center Stage area, you can listen to a couple more songs by Reggie, and some other folks as well.

It's lovely. I could hear a deep baritone telling a heartwarming story over this track, ending up with the words, "Merry Christmas from all of us to all of you". Very nice playing.

Thank you all so much for the kind words! The recording of "White Christmas" was done in my "little studio" on the Roland VS-880 Digital Workstation. The sountract was pre- recorded at another studio, so I actually borrowed the track from another person's vocal project. I play a 1979 Emmons P/P through a Peavey Profex II and a Nashville 400 amp in live performances. However, for this recording, I experimented with the recorder's effects only! No amp and no other effects except in the recorder. I didn't even use a direct box! Just the Emmons, Goodrich L-120 volume pedal, and 2 Emmons cables.

This song is part of an 8 song Christmas project, 7 of which are Steel Guitar instrumentals. On "Silver Bells" I did a piano solo in addition to the steel. The 8th song, "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen", is an instrumental by my 12 year old son, Jake, doing various takes on 6-string guitar and bass.
I want to encourage him to pursue his musical abilities, whenever I get a chance!

These 8 songs are available on CD and cassette from me. I would be delighted for anyone interested to have one. Please email me.
