Who Is This Steel Player with Bob Dyland
Bob Dyland performing for the Pope Sep 27, 1997, at the National Eucharistic Congress. The name of the steel player is not given. It looks like he's playing a Sho-Bud!

Is it proper etiquette, when playing for the Pope, to stand with your back to him?? Who's giving whom an audience here?
And what exactly was the Pope thinking when this photo was taken? I'll start the guessing:
Euch! What's that whiney thing??
Oy vey! Who booked country music into this place??
I thought they said they were bringing Emmons. I've been had!
-------
Other suggestions?

Bob Dylan with a steel player? Have someone
go to Fullerton California and visit the site
of "The Original Fender Factory" there is
another "steel player" playing with Dylan and Jimi Hendrix... And that trio was not playing for the POPE.
Did you know that the POPE liked the Fender
Sound?? Dave Van Allen met the POPE and he said to Dave,,,"Dave" Its FENDER OF COURSE
this billboard in Fullerton tells it all.
One Picture is worth a THOUSAND WORDS...

Gene, That is definately Bucky Baxter, he played with Dylan up to about a year ago. He was with him for quite a few years including the grammy's when they were playing and some guy jumped on stage with them dancing with "Soy Bomb' painted on his chest. Bucky has a green Sho-bud S-10.
He does have a solo album out 'Most likely,no problem' and can be purchased from his website www.BuckyBaxter.com.
I got it from him last year when he came to New York with Steve Forbert. He was really a nice guy. A month later I saw him play in Austin, TX with Ryan Adams at SXSW.
Hope this helps, Craig
[This message was edited by Craig Stock on 15 January 2002 at 06:12 PM.]

Thanks all, for the "heads up" on Bucky Baxter....I had not previously been familiar with his career. www.genejones.com
At the moment Ryan Adams CD 'Gold' (2001) is getting a lot of airplay here, and he's touring. Bucky is on that one and it's selling quite well here and in the UK.
He's also worked with Suzy Bogguss, and appears all over my CD collection. Besides his work with Dylan (I think I saw Bucky on steel and guitat with Bob), Bucky appears on a heap of Steve Earle albums; 'Guitar Town,' 'Exit O,' 'Copperhead Road,' 'Hard Way' and 'Shut Up and Die Like an Aviator.'
He's on Joe Henry's excellent 'Trampoline' CD which I finally got a copy of (for one dollar!) a week ago, some Jim Lauderdale, and R.E.M.'s Green album.
Some good stuff...

They dont have the "foggiest" idea as to what
you are reffering to.
They dont know who played steel with Dylan years back and will be at his side FOREVER.
The same with JIMI HENDRIX,,,lets keep it a
secret..... ...I think Gene Jones knows.
Both of you,,,are probably the only people that know,,,unless they saw the,,,,,,???????
understand?? sure you do.

Jim...with one hand on his stomach, and the other over his face, my first thought was that the music had made him ill.....I would sure like to know what the "playlist" was for that audience. www.genejones.com P.S. Jody...you are in rare company...not many musicians have their picture bigger than lifesize displayed over the Interstate!
[This message was edited by Gene Jones on 17 January 2002 at 09:27 AM.]

Jody: I did mention your name at the Toll Booth and they took me out of the car and frisked me real good !! Know what I mean, Vern ??
Jim: I laughed at you comments so hard that the flame on my candle went out. I tried for the life of me to think of something and I couldn't. I think you simply covered all of it but I'm still trying. Where did Sheila put her migraine medicine ???
Regards, Paul
