Buddie´s Boogie

Post by Joerg Hennig »

I did a search on this topic but nothing came up. Buddy Charleton recorded this tune in 1968 on the album "The Terrific Texas Troubadours"; Buddy Emmons originally wrote it back in the ´50s. The story goes that Buddy C. played it in front of Buddy E. back in 1961. It´s one of the tunes I´m currently working on, though it will take a lot of practice to get it up to that speed. It seems like it is one of the few tunes that use the C6 pedal 4 (at least, at one point).
I´d just like to know if there is a recording of the original version available somewhere to hear how "The Big E" did it.

The original version, as well as the other three instrumentals, "Red Wing", "Country Boy Bounce", "Raisin' The Dickens" are also included on Bear Family released Little Jimmy Dickens box set ( the first one, there's two volumes ). German Cattle records also released a compilation album of various radio show recordings with a different version.
The original is great, one of my all time favorite steel instros, it's HOT, you can almost smell Buddy's Bigsby burning. Now if someone could verify the tuning Big E used on it, I guess it was E13 or the E9 pedal neck??

Jussi,
The tuning from the top string was: E, B, G#, F#, D, B, G#, E. Pedal A pulled B to C# and G# to A. Pedal B pulled D to E, B to C#, and G# to A, for an A6 chord with pedals A and B down.

B Cole,
My last Profex bit the dust a year or two ago so I don't have a setting for it. Most of the rackmount effects I've used come out sounding reasonably close, although they're all set differently, so I have no list of frequencies I can suggest. I just poke around until I hear what's in my head and if it responds to some of my pet phrases, I lock it in.

Buddy,
In your post above about the pedal set-up, did the'A' pedal pull strings 2 and 3 and the 'B' pedal pull the lower strings?

Buddy, how in the heck do you remember all this stuff? I have trouble remembering to change my underware every day.

An autobiography of your life would be one of the best things that could happen to the steel guitar. Please think about it.

Buddy, thank you for confirming that tuning. That's actually what I thought it was, and what I'm planning to use on my T8 Wright. It's nice to know, that all these "sleepless nights trying to figure it out" weren't for nothing. Whopee!! Image
