Do any of you old timers remember a steel player from Texas named Ted Daffin? I met him many years ago when he was traveling with Floyd Tillman.

Ted lived in the Houston area, but passed away several years ago. I was interested in getting his version of Blue Steel Blues, but he said he forgot how he played it. I first met him back in the 40's when he played the local [skull orchards behind the chicken wire.]Jody Sanders or Bobby Bowman may have more info on him. Bill

Ted played steel in his younger days and did work with Floyd Tillman. Ted developed into one of the best songwriters of all time. " Born To Lose', "No Letter Today", and lots of others. He organized a band called "The Texans" that included a steel player and traveled extensively as a vocalist. He came back to Houston in the late 60's and booked out occassionally. He is deceased and was recently inducted into the Texas Steel Guitar Assn. Hall of Fame. Jody.

I remember Ted Daffin and his Texans. They did a song called Worried Mind. This had to be back in the late 40's or early 50s's. Anyway when I heard that steel solo I knew then that I had to play steel Guitar. I'm steel tryin.

Ted Daffan was my first real experience with listening to and liking steel guitar, during the 40's war years. His intro to No Letter Today did it .I bought everything I could find of his and still have them. No Letter Today,Born to Lose,Beyond a shadow of a doubt , Falling Star,Worried Mind, Blue Steel Blues and more that I can't think of right now. Yeah he was the man.
