New Years Resolution

Post by Rick Collins »

New Years resolution:
To practice harmonics the first fifteen minutes of every practice session,___no exception. The finger harmonics on 5,7,&12 (Rose City Chimes, etc.) come easy. But I anticipate palm harmonics, like a Navy F-14 pilot anticipates a night carrier landing. I begin thinking about the harmonics at the beginning of a song and think, "hear come those harmonics", right up until I have struggled through them.

Does one really have to be cross-eyed to play good palm harmonics? I can't look at the fret where the bar is positioned and the fret where I'm picking at the same time.

I am convenienced that those recordings that have seemingly perfect harmonics are done with a group of coordinated musicians striking different size triangles for each note;___kidding of course. Image

Actually the F-14 pilot snags a cable more regularly than I hit a good harmonic. Image

Anyone got any new ideas on practicing harmonics?

...get your wife to put on a yellow shirt and stand in front of you with a couple light batons to guide you into the right fret position...then you won't need to see both of your hands at the same time...

She's agreed to this Pat; but she also wants to wear those big earmuffs like the flight deck crew wears. Image
