U/12 single Vs dlb. cabinet

Post by stingray »

"HELLO"
I am in the market for a newer U/12 for my son. he has played for a few years now.

at this time he using a MSA that I convertd
to a U/12 from a extended E/9..it is getting
to the point where it need rebuilt.

I am a D/10 player & don't play a U/12. "SO"
any input on cabinet & pickup that will give both E/9 and B/6 sound, will be very helpfull. the new singles with a step on the rear seem compact. the dlb. with pad seems to waist a lot of space & add weight..what do you think?

any opp. will be welcomed!

KEEP PICKING !

I have both a U12 on a single frame and a U 12 on a double frame. I think the double frame sounds better and is more comfortable to play. It does weigh a little more but based on the results I think its worth it. Both guitars have the Bill Lawrance 712 pickup. The single frame has a 24 inch scale and the double frame has a 24 1/4 scale. The most obvious advantage for the double frame is the room for all the knee levers. I think my next guitar will be a frame and 1/2.

Hey ! thanks Dan & Glen!

does anyone make a 1 1/2 cabnet other than sierra? most of the mfg. that I have called
say that it it a custom job!

due you like the 712 pickup, or due you think it is a little to bright. I would like to hear from someone that has tryed a 912 B/L, or anyone that knows a mfg. that makes 1 1/2 cabinets. that sound about the right width.

Glen how wide is your 14 string?

KEEP PICKING !

I think my Mullen U-12 is on a "1 and 1/2 frame". It's 9 inches wide.

Lee- that Mullen is Just the right size for a singel 12, that you have.
Also I had 8 knee levers on my single 12 Carter 8 1/2 inches wide and worked fine..Plenty of room for the knee levers and still has the tone....al Image Image

I'm moving this to the "Pedal Steel" section.
