Josh Taylor was awarded an MSA 12-string pedal steel and Session 500 amp at last year at the 2001 Sacred Steel Convention. Josh started playing lap steel in church at age 8 and is 22 now. Before last March he had played pedal steel very little.
I just returned from a House of God state assembly where Josh just amazed me and everybody else. He is an incredible talent. With Glenn Lee's passing there is really no one in the House of God in S. Florida to show him anything on the pedal-steel, so he has had to figure it out by himself. Josh is one of the hottest of the new breed of sacred steelers. What he has accomplished in a few short months is incredible.
Go Josh!

Josh doesn't need anybody to show him anything, he is a phenominal musician, and a great performer. I can't wait to hear him next year!

Dan,
You're right. Josh is phenomenally talented and an inventive improviser. At the ripe old age of 22 he has put in a whole lot of time playing for very demanding but supportive people--the House of God congregations.
I had the opportunity at the State Assembly to conduct a fascinating interview with Josh. He has had his hands anointed and prayed over by several ministers and credits some of his most recent musical improvements to three days of fasting and praying. He really puts a lot of spiritual energy into his playing and has the chops to support it.
We're in for a real treat when we hear him at the 2002 convention in April. One can't even imagine what he'll learn on that pedal steel in the next six months!
