Curly Chalker: Hits CD

Post by Tom Gorr »

Sometime in the past, a forumite likened Paul Franklin's second (C6th) solo in Alan Jackson's 'Don't even know her name' song to the style of Curly Chalker.

I love that solo. So now, I want to find some Curly Chalker stuff - but don't even know where to start looking (ie. newbie). The local music store shows a discontinued title.

Any album suggestions, preferably on CD, perhaps in the mode of "greatest hits"??

Thanks,
Tom

I am not aware of any CDs but Tom Bradshaw stocks five tapes. (www.songwriter.com/bradshaw)or follow the forum links)

Nashville Sundown, Counterpoint, Big Hits on Big Steel, Nevada Breaks and More Ways To Play.

Counterpoint and Nevada Breaks are listed in a "Core Collection" of steel music.

Tom, on the Jackson song you were referring to, the second solo on the C6 was done by John Hughey. He and Paul Franklin were both on the session for that tune. As stated above, Tom Bradshaw of PSG Products carry Curly's solo works and you can click on the Links portion at the top and get Tom's web site. Tom, as a post script to my last post, John is a super player in all respects but his C6 playing to me, is his best stuff. When we went to a Vince Gill concert and they jammed on a tune and John did a knocked out job on the C6 and hit some great Chalker licks that blew me away. John can deliver the mail, Gary.

Gentlemen:

Thanks-all for your help on this.

My apologies and newfound reverence to the talent of John Hughey! What other stuff did he do for Alan Jackson?

Red, I will forward my mailing address.

Regards, Tom.
