Buddy Emmons Live '77 Isgc

I just listened to this CD again in my new truck, with a good sound system, and I'm blown away all over again. I missed the ISGC in 1977, I was there in '76 and '78. Does anyone know what equipment Buddy was using? I assume it was a P/P guitar and Peavey amps, Session 500's perhaps? Also, does anyone know what equipment was used to record it?

I was there that evening. A black PP. I recall a session 400, Furman PQ-3, ebow and MXR envelope filter. If I remember BE's response to his PQ-3 usage...he boosted the lower mids a little and let the 400 take care of the upper frequencies.
I have the LPs but planning on buying the CDs.
I'm not sure about the recording equipment. Peavey provided the sound system.
To my ear it was the best tone I've heard from BE. However, he adjusts to compliment the flow.
I always admired the places where the rides would get out on a limb to the point of breaking...like the end of Barrett's ride on Witches Brew and somehow he gets back on track with some triplets at the end. Then Goodrum picks up the keyboard ride and teases a little with the same triplets before diving into it.

I was there too -- sitting on the floor right in front of the stage.

This set of CDs is a MUST HAVE for any fan of the pedal steel. Some of the best playing -- by Buddy and an INCREDIBLE band -- that has ever been recorded, IMHO.

So noone gets confused, the '77 ISGC live performance was on TWO LP's and is now available on ONE CD.

I've had these albums for years, bought in vinyl and need to get the CD's. I recently bought a live recording of BE in Denver from Wayne Yakes and it's about as good as the convention recording, really. It also has a great Q/A at the end of the recording discussing equipment, techniques and is very professionally done in CD with an excellent cover. I was surprised to find something like this of our favorite player I didn't know was out there. He actually reaches a little farther out there on his solos IMO. He's playing a Rosewood Legrande and shows how he gets that echo going on Witches Brew and a lot more.

I just got the "Live in Denver" CD, and during the Q&A, Buddy said the "ISGC '77 Live" recordings were done on a Teac 80-8 with no DBX. Scotty also mentions that Buddy did the mixdown himself, in his basement. The sound is phenomenal to have been recorded live with this equipment. Evidently Buddy is a great recording engineer as well as player. If you don't have the "Live in Denver" CD, you need to get it. The Q&A at the end of it is worth the price of the whole CD.

I forgot to mention, John Macy did a great job recording and mixing the "Live in Denver" project. I know how difficult some of these live projects can be. Lets see --- 1982 --- John you must have only been about 17 or 18 at the time. You did really good for a kid - LOL.

That was a fun show--it was recorded live to 2 track (cassette, no less

), so what happened that day to tape was it, no second chance for a mix...

Gee, I still feel 17 or 18...sometimes anyway.
