I had the pleasure of hearing Steve Hinson with Randy Travis this evening. All of you Nashville guys already know what a great player he is. I see why you've all raved about him before.

Luther Burbank Center was pretty well packed. I'd say that at least 90% of the seats were filled. It was the first time that Travis ever played Santa Rosa, so all of the fans showed up and gave him a standing ovation as soon as he walked out on stage.

Steve was playing a green Sho-Bud SD-10 with 3 pedals and 6 knee levers. He had a dobro simulator (a Match-Bro, I think) to cop all of the Peda-Bro parts, and it sounded like the real thing from where I sat. The whole show was very tightly arranged, and there were some complex interactions between the lead guitar and steel that were lots of fun to watch. The lighting guy seemed to really have it together, bringing up the light on Steve when he had a solo or was doing fills, and never turning it all the way off.

Watching Steve play was pretty humbling for me. I did a gig earlier in the day and was thinking that I was really hot. Steve brought me down a few notches. Nothing like watching a real pro to realize how little you actually know.

After the show Mrs. Lee and I went up to the stage and introduced ourselves. Steve treated me like a long lost friend. He says there are lots of laptop computers on the bus, and he reads the Forum and his email even when he's on the road.

Thanks, Steve, for a great show and for taking the time to talk to us. We really had a great time.

Nice Post b0b !! Here in Macon, GA we still talk about Steve a lot. He was a very young beginner and he went all the way. I printed that last post and some e-mail Steve sent me and took it to our former boss, Larry G Hudson. We spent a nice afternoon recalling the old days and eating some of Larry's new hot dog line. I for one am surely glad you enjoyed his work; he's one of us !!

Sure wish I could have been there. I've seen Steve play lead guitar with George Jones about five times, and him and Killen worked real well togather.

But when Jones did "He Stopped Loving Her Today", there were times you had to look and see where the steel sound was coming from. Steve Is that good at bending strings...with no built In bender.

He must be something else on the steel because to me It's eazier to play than the standard. And then playing with Killen a few years couldn't have hurt either.
