Any Info on Steeler Mike Johnson?

Post by GaryHoetker »

Mike played at Buck's Crystal Palace last Saturday night backing Rick Reno Stevens who launched his fabulous new CD on Broken Bow Records. Mike is a terrific player and has a great stage presence. By the way, Buck has lost alot of weight and seems to be re-energized.

I don't know Mike personally but have admired his playing for many years. He is a top tier pro. In my opinion, his creativity, execution, and tone are in the same category as Buddy Emmons, Paul Franklin, Tommy White, and a selected FEW others. He was seen on several of the earlier TNN music shows ('You Can be a Star' -- possibly others) and was in Bill Anderson's band -- preceeding Donna Hammitt.

Last time I saw him play, he was sportin' a 10x10 Emmons and played like buttah. A truly accomplished musician.

Mike used to play for Mel Street in his heyday. I saw him last year playing behind The Geezinslaw Bros. Larry

I also think he played in the studio for Brad Paisley.

If his performance on both Paisley cds doesn't get him to the "A" level of studio players there is no justice. He just plays so sweet and hot and tasteful...Pete

I've known him since he first moved to Nashville (we even baby sat for him some). He's a great guy and a truly hot player. He's been quietly working on lots of masters over the last 10 or so years and folks are now starting to appreciate what he can do. There's a lot more than we've heard so far though.
