Your least favorite Color?
Whats your least favorite color on a steel guitar? We know most prefer black so which color would you not even consider when buying a new guitar?

You can get away with anything on a laquer guitar. But with Formica, anything but black or certain wood grain colors looks too much like a trailorpark kitchenette to me.I especially hate bright white, purple, fire engine red and those two-tone mica front aprons everybody seems to have on their guitars lately.Ironically,I would like those colors if applied to a wood guitar like a 50s-60s Fender guitar finish("Seafoam Green" anyone?).

I hated the "white tidewood" Formica that was on my old MSA. I drove truck for a while back in the 70's and every Howard Johnsons in New England had the same Formica on their counter tops!

I too have little fondness for "white tidewood," however, the color bottom for me is the 1966 Emmons bolt-on that was made for Dolores (?) and last owned (to my knowledge)by Carco Clave'. This guitar actually has kitchenette pink mica... and is a great sounding horn!
Go figure that one...

I guess I ought to put this the other way ´round. When some day I´ll buy a new steel, it has to be either black, natural (maple), rosewood/mahogany, or maybe (maybe) some shade of dark red (burgundy). Also certain kinds of "burnt orange" look cool to me. But everything else is my "least favorite color." Anyway, I don´t believe they have anything to do with the sound. IMHO, this is more of a psychological matter.
...least favorite would be all chrome like a restaurant sink...next would be white...can't say I care much for the two-tone myself, either the front apron split type, or the top/apron different color type, I prefer all one color...wouldn't like fire engine red (I bought mine used, it's a much more muted Derby Red, which has grown on me)...Bruce Heffner has a peach colored Mullins for sale, it's actually a really pretty guitar...black is safe, but so dreary...

No greens of any kind, no whites, no more Rosewoods, certainly no pink or peach.
Black, Burlwood mica, Sunburst natural wood like on my P/P, Cherry red stain where the Birdseye comes through or black of the same finish would be my first choices.
The Zums have some very creative mica finishes, best I've seen.

I love my "Birdseye Green" Carter, but then my favorite shirt has been described as, "It Looks Like a Parrot Exploded".No greens of any kind

I really do believe that black sounds best to the player. Without visual distraction, you hear better.
I really don't like the light colors much. I tolerate my Stringmaster (it's pale yellow), but in my heart I know it would sound better if it was a darker color. My Williams is dark red laquer - very pretty and it sounds nice but black would sound better. All of my other steels are black.

Henry Ford said it best with..."You can have any color you want as long as it is black!" (paraphrased)
I don't have a least favorite color because I don't own a guitar I don't like the looks of!
