Yes, I've been hacked.
Fellow forumite and friend Steve Feldman was kind enough to point out that I have a self-sending virus. Thanks Steve, I appreciate the heads up. My computer fumigator is coming tomorrow.
b0b, a thousand apologies. I realize this is not the appropriate place to post this, but I was afraid my acquaintances would not catch it in the "computer" section. You can lock 'er up. No replies necessary.

Correct me if I am wrong but I thought you could only get a virus if you opened an attachment from an email? I don't think reading email will download virus's. Those in the know speak up.

It looked fishy to me, so I didn't open the attachment. Practice safe hex - don't open attachments.

We had one of these a while ago where I work... this site gives *some* info on how to get rid of this type: http://www.sarc.com/avcenter/venc/data/vbs.loveletter.a.html

the attachment we got was called "very funny" - I just searched out and deleted any file with that name (search as veryfunny*.*)
had to do it a bunch of times but eventually they stopped coming back.
Disclaimer: I can deal with computers, and figure a lot of stuff out, but I KNOW NOTHING

thread,,,in answer to your question about Louis Jordan....it was after that ,,I got the "bug"

Will send you my doctors bill....You are always welcome to write...there is one guy on this Forum who has a bug up his "butt" all the time,,and that one cant be fixed.

This morning I received 3 copies of a virus from Russel Cole. Beware! I have been getting that virus E mail that b0b mentioned about 2 times a day for the last few days. It comes from a different source everytime. I just delete it without opening the attachment and have had no problems.

Since I dont know about these things ,,here is a question...I run Norton Anti Virus and keep it updated etc...the other day I received an email "Snow White HaHa" I had been warned by my ISP to watch out for this.

It obviously infected my pc,,,,as I had three
notices of quarrantine,,,I went through the best i could to find what i did wrong..I did not open the attachement but I did click onto the incoming e mail in order to delete.

Now the status of my Norton Anti virus shows
"No virus'es for the past 2 days,,,Iam am unable to reach customer support at Norton does this mean I still have a virus in my system?? I have gone through every program I could to find the culprit,,,any suggestions?

I've gotten the same messages Jody. I've tried forwarding the email to techsupport@norton and we'll see- it's not recognized yet but it's here lurking- my box is actin' up~ will post more when I get more info~ Jim

I got an email from John. I clicked on the basic message, not the attachment.(OUTLOOK EXPRESS). There was a different smaller screen that came up with the attachment icon at bottom, I think there was some text about some neat game and message board site. The attachment was some type of exe. file. It looked kinda fishy so I didn't click on the paperclip or the little box(icon) with exe. under it. What do I need to do now? With Outlook Express, I don't know how to delete it without highlighting it, which is what I've already done so I guess it doesn't matter at this point. Need some help.

Ken,,,,that is exactly what happened to me. I had to "highlight" the message not open the attachment,,,to delete it....but somehow got the virus,,,I highlighted in order to "delete"

I didnt open the attachment either.....but here Iam with a virus,,,,

Right click on the email in question to get the context menu, then select "Delete".

Also, you should change your email settings so that emails don't automatically preview when you click them. Set it so that you have to double-click to open an email. It's safer that way.
