I'd like to hack around with making a lap steel with the tuners behind the bridge instead of the conventional behind the nut setup.

Does anyone know where some 'straight pull' tuners that might be available.

I have a Kline pedal steel with a simple gearless setup which I think is fabulous, especially when it's time to change strings.

You can see a picture of the Kline setup at Winnie Winston's site. http://www.julianwinston.com/music/me_and_the_pedal_steel2.php

I've got some LSR tuners on my #1 axe.
(Similar to the Steinberger design)
I do not know where to send you to get them.
Try a google search.
Also, Stewmac.com has some, but they are 180 degree, like banjo tuners.
You would have to come up with an unusal mounting for them.
