Rick,
Now you'll need to get one of those Gibson, Trace-Elliot Gold tone amps to play it through. I picked one up a while age and they're really quite a unit. A tube amp with a lot of nice features.

Bill - it sure is, it's a pretty baby!

Andy - I will. The next tune will feature the GCG.

Mark - Yeah, the maple is nice. Fat thick sound - and it's heavy!! The heaviest steel I own in fact. I also "won" a GCG 8/7 on eBay, just to keep this one company. It should be here this week. Item # 7307408075 .

Ron - I'm not sure. When I try to count them, halfway through I lose track of where I started! But they're a better investment than real estate - no property taxes or utility bills, and a lot less maintenance . .
That's what I tell my wife, anyway. And she just gives me that look.

Denny - yes it is. I don't like waiting for things (I'm a member of the "now" generation), but I finally found one, and it's here now.
All my best thoughts to Dean.

George - Yeah, somebody took real good care of it over the years. I guess his name was Les, because the letters "LES" were stuck on the front. I got them off alright, you can't hardly see where they were.

Jody - thanks for stickin' up for me buddy, but as for being a dawg - I have to confess I had a bone when I saw this sweetheart on eBay.
I'm not really such a full-fledged traitor - the ratio of Fenders to Gibsons is 4 to 1, soon to be 8 to 3 when I get the 8/7, but then if I ever get the new FS52 I ordered it'll be 3 to 1. So Leo doesn't need to roll over and wrinkle the houndstooth just yet . .

Erv - you're absolutely right, I need a couple of Goldtones for this steel. Why, it's only fittin'!
I've been playing it through 2 Music Man HD130s, and it sounds real good - fat and spunky. It's definitely suited to tube amps . .

Rick,
I like to match things up. If I'm playing a Gibson, I like a Gibson amp. If I'm playing a Fender, I like a Fender amp. Now if Peavey would only make a steel guitars!

Hey Rick,
That is a gorgeous piece. That double neck I scored a few weeks ago is very worn, but does sound excellent. Way to go!
BTW Gibson has discontinued the Goldtone amps, so grab one before they dissapear. I don't know if they will drop in value, but if you find one in a store, I bet you can make a good deal. Gibson is going to reintroduce some of their 1950-60's models next year.

Loni, yeah they have a real distinctive sound. I played it through several different amps including a Steel King, a Session 500, and Music Man HD 130s. The Music Man amps suited it the best. It probably would sound killer through a couple of GoldTones . .

Rick,
I have a couple of Console Grandes. One is a D-8 in sunburst like yours and the other has a 7 string neck and an 8 string neck and is done up in a natural finish. I'm having the chrome redone on both of mine at present. Gibson's chroming sure wasn't up to Fender's standard.
The Goldtone amp I have was still made in England after Gibson bought out Trace-Elliot and is Brown. The last time I looked, Musician's Friend still had some for sale.

Erv, can you post pics of them? Or send them to me and I'll do it . .

I also got a sunburst 8/7 on eBay the other day #7307408075 - it should be here any time. I just couldn't resist . .
When it gets here, I'll shine it up and post some pics.

What tuning do you have on your 7 string neck? I thought I'd put the JB diatonic tuning on mine, and either B11th or Leavitt on the 8 string neck.

And . . if any other GCG owners would like to display their pics - you're welcome to post them in this thread (or email them to me and I will)

Chances are, I'll use a C#m7 on one neck and a C6th on the other.

Maybe I should look around for one of those beauties, and that one is really a beauty Rick. I'm running out of necks with my D8 for using different tunings.
The local music store has a Gibson tube amp (expensive) and they tell me it's made in England. I don't remember if it's called a goldtone.

Bill, you wouldn't be sorry. If you see a GCG T8 - grab it fast. There aren't too many of 'em - I was looking for a long time . .

This is Loni Specter's GCG D8 that he snagged for an unbelievable $150 on eBay.
That has to be the "Steal Deal" of the year!

Cool Stand . .
