Topic: Gibson BR-9 Lap Steel Two Songs |

Last Saturday someone landed on my back door step with a Gibson BR-9 and sold it to me
for $275 Can. with case. It has never been
played much and close to mint condition.
I know they are plentiful and no collectors
item but I boulght it for a C6th...C6th/A7..
and Leavitt instrument.
After new strings I recorded two songs
different styles: Seagull Island, an original
on C6/A7 and then A Foggy Day, on the Leavitt
tuning.
A few years ago Ian McLatchie, Ontario, Canada sent me several Leavitt arrangements that he worked out and Foggy Day was one of them. I played it exactly as he tabbed it and
was amazed at how he was able to extract the chords from this tuning. Many thanks Ian!!
I will be adding these songs to my Tablature list of songs available in the Tablature Section of the Forum.

Roy, you totally amaze me, your tone and technique are both to be admired by the finest in this field.

Hey Roy,
GREAT pickin'!! I have a BR-9,that needs "stringin' " I think I'd like to try that "Leavitt" tuning. Can you tell me the tuning,& string gauges? My 1st lap steel was a BR-9. This ain't it,but one just like it.
BTW,give us somemore pickin'.

That's pretty amazing sounding stuff, Roy. It's hard to believe that's coming out of a Gibson BR-9 with only six strings!

I really enjoyed the playing on both songs, Roy! 
You sure prove that a lot can be obtained with six strings!

I am very thankful for all your comments.
Somewhat embarrassing actually! I just do what I like to do ,,,,and that is play and if it helps or encourages someone or gives a measure of enjoyment so much the better.
Bobbe, I recently signed up for your Newsletter and got the first one to-day. Some real good tips and I should have been on your mailing list long ago.
If anyone plays C6th and has not yet tuned
the sixth string up half a tone,,,do yourself a favour and "do it". It really fills out the tuning. I go back and forth,,and it only takes a second or two.
The Leavitt tuning is a whole new world. I hardly know what I am doing there. Mike Ihde, a member of this Forum is the ultimate resource and that's who got me started on it.
Ian McLatchie is another fan of the tuning.
I have not heard him play but he sure can write some pretty stuff for it.
Smiley, the tuning is laid out as follows:
High to low:
D--C--Bb--G--E--C# and my guages ,,,
015--018--022P--027--030--038

The second song had me feeling like I was setting on the beach watching the ocean rolling in and feeling a warm breeze across my face. Your touch and tone is wonderful.
