I acquired a Micro Steel 12" scale lap steel about a year ago that was not playable. A local luthier friend of mine and I have reworked the instrument into a playable condition. I was wondering if anyone has experimented with a Micro Steel and what tunings were used. I would like to get ideas from different steelers. As you would imagine the register is quite high and small frets, but a gas to experiment with. Give me some ideas and experiences with this little fella!

If I can figure out how to do it, I will take a picture with my digital and see if I can figure out how to post it. Or if anyone is a lot smarter than me, tell me how to do it.

Sweet!!! That thing sure looks fun.
I have a little six stringer that I tune up to C major (151351)
Good question-what would you tune it to?

I would tune it 12th fret of a C6 pedal steel guitar with a G on top because it is half size of a real guitar. It makes a nice practice- and travel guitar especially if you like Don Helms tunes. I think I´ll build one for myself but only with 8 strings.

YOWIE ZOWIE ...A briefcase Steel ...what a trip! GOTTA love it!

Food for thought: With 6 strings and a Variaxe or midi interface, that thing could be assigned lower octave and any tunings at the "flick of a switch"; Even octave switching with an expression pedal; ...Or a lower octave gotten with a simple octave effects pedal. And would darn sure tighten up a Picker's upper register abilities (where I'm a klutz)! Midi or Variaxe technology might even offer a way to cover 10 strings (2 pickups?).

And with a palm-pedal .........

Aloha,
DT~
