For those of you with bigger budgets than I have, FYI, Gruhn Guitars has some particularly nice steels in stock right now including ....
EU2580 Fender Deluxe lap steel, circa 1946, VG+, pickup rewound by Gruhn Guitars, no case......$1250
EU2629 Rickenbacker A-22 Frying Pan (More photos...) , circa 1934, EXF, rectangular OHC and original amplifier...REDUCED from $5500......$5000
EU2633 K & F lap steel, 1946, EXC, original gray crinkle paint finish, an extremely rare and historically significant instrument by Doc Kauffman and Leo Fender, original gig bag......$2000
EU2634 Rickenbacker Deluxe DC-12 doubleneck with 2 six-string necks (More photos...) , circa 1950, NM, cast single-piece neck and body unit, lucite fingerboard, flip-up peghead covers, horseshoe magnet pickups, OHC......$1850
EU2637 Fender Custom (More photos...) , 1949, EXF, three eight-string necks, trapezoidal strings-thru pickups, three legs, tweed OHC......$2000
EU2639 Gibson EH-100 with Alamo amplifier, 1936, EXC, black finish, OSC......$1000
EU2645 Gibson EH-100 seven-string (More photos...) , 1939, EXC, sunburst finish, rare model, OHC with non-original exterior painting......$1250
Now if only they had "a Daisy Red Rider BB gun with a compass in the stock and that thing which tells time"! Sigh.

Oh sure Andy. Put this up now after we are all broke from Christmas. If I had seen this sooner I wouldn't have wasted all that money on my wifes new vacum cleaner and ironing board.
Well, at least "SHE" will have a merry Christmas... |

That's funny, Gary... I got my wife a talking bottle opener that says in Homer Simpson's voice Mmmmmmm... beeeeeerr.... Yahooo!!, so she has something to smile about when she opens my beer before she brings it to me while I'm on the sofa watching the game.
Well, OK -- not really. You were kidding about the vacuum and ironing board, right!?
My wife wouldn't really appreciate the subtle nuance of those gifts, I'm afraid!
Have a Merry Christmas!

Well Todd lets put it this way. It makes up for the tool belt and "How to fix anything in the House yourself" book she got me last year...
Back to the topic, Gruhn's always seem to be about 25-50% higher than street value. Does he negotiate prices? |

It's a seller's market. Those prices are up there because people will pay them. Is Leo Fender going to make another Custom again - ever? Gruhns and Mandolin Brothers essentially invented the market for vintage guitars and researched and wrote about them in a very visible and compelling way which fuled the fire and kept it stoked for 20+ years. Their prices are way high but all of those guitars will move. Wish one would move to my house!
Ouch! I shot my eye out![This message was edited by Andy Volk on 24 December 2006 at 11:46 AM.] |
