There is one of these at a local music shop. I'm assuming it's a Gibson made squareneck dobro but I haven't been able to find any info on this model.

The headstock label has the dog head and instead of the "Original Hound Dog" lettering it states- "Hound Dog Deluxe". It has a dark finish.

Any info/opinions on it?

Ah, the Internet reveals all in time:
Gibson Hound Dog 60S

Anyone have an idea how these compare vs the other Hound Dog model?

I played this and the Hound Dog a couple years back when I was in St. Louis. I thought they were okay at the time. As I remember, the Hound Dog was around $800 or so and the Hound Dog Deluxe was about $200 more.
Here's my post on it back in 2003.
How much are they asking for it?

They want about 1500 Cdn, which seems a bit high, even with all the tariffs and exchange.

Sounded decent and it looked quite nice, but I think I'll hold off entering into reso-land for now, as tempting as it might be...

Yeah, that's definitely too much for that type of instrument. You'd be much better off getting a Gold Tone Beard or Wechter Scheerhorn for less money.
When I looked at these guitars in 2003, they were well under $1000 USD. Now the ones I see online are well over that price point.
