Would I be correct in regarding this as unlikely to sell at this price? Was it made by Gretsch or Shot?
Auction on eBay.

They look cool and they are old and long out of production, so somebody might pay that much. I coveted one back in the day. But I tried one at a guitar show a couple of years ago, and the sound was nowhere near as good as inexpensive resos today. Good for collecting, but not for playing. Of course you could have a modern maker alter it to sound better. But that would destroy the collector's value. |

$1,500 bucks IMHO is way, way too much for such a guitar.
One way you can tell if it is Gretsch made (worth about $500 or less) or ShoBud made (worth around $1,000) is the serial number.
Gretches had sound rings, most Shobuds had pegs.
All had an arched back which gave them volume and with an E-tuning, you get the sound that Shot was after in there design.
He happened upon that design when he bought a Norwood Chime, made by Regal for Montgomery Ward, which had an arched back and a larger body.
If you contact me at my email, I'll send you something that I wrote years ago about Gretch versus ShoBud that explains it all.

Ray Watkins had a seven string Sho-Bro just weeks before he died that I played at his house. I think this was his personal guitar. I think he wanted somewhere around $1000 or maybe a little more. I thought it had a good tone to it but it was a big body guitar and too awkward for me. |
