Thanks! Bill Elm is one of my favorite lap steelers (actually, a FODM concert was the final straw that made me starting to learn that instrument).

I just wish they had included more of his playing and less of the interview. At one point you can see cross his arms and play on the other side of the bar. what's that about?

That's a technique for getting an ethereal sound out of your guitar. It works on any steel guitar, and usually sounds best on the 12th fret. Sliding back and forth while strumming on the "other" side of the bar is one of those tricks you end up trying eventually.
