Jeff - you're your own worst critic. We all do that to ourselves. All I gotta say is, I listened to that track and discovered about halfway thru that I was smiling. Whatever problems you hear may be good for learning and development, but be aware that the overall track is just plain beautiful and fun.

Thanks Gerald, for posting the link.

"...Thirdly the swing is not tight. I'm wondering if this is a result of multitracking, my poor tempo skills (not enough time spent with the metronone), or both. One thing I don't like about my steel playing is that it tends to "float" around the downbeat, never directly on it. Kind of like a drunk guy trying to get 'expressive' with his vocal... never quite locking in with the rhythm section. ..."

You're too fine a musician to have "poor tempo skills"; I don't believe that. One possibility is latency in older multitracking software that can cause the lead track (generally the last one recorded) to sound a bit late.

The newer softwares with ASIO drivers address this situation.

Craig.

And how can I get that beautiful tone on a PSG? I'm jealous...

When Korg or Roland makes the "Bobby Mau Hoy" stomp box, I'll be the first in line to buy it.

Gerald, this tune was my first project on my new Yamaha AW1600 (holiday gift to myself). Everything was done on that board along with an Audio Technica 4040 condenser mike. I've got a lot to learn about mixing.
