Can someone tell me the name of this tune? This is Mel Abe playing on an album I have of Hilo Hattie with the Hawaiian Village Serenaders. It's only about 8 seconds long...it's the last 8 seconds of the last cut on the LP. Hilo Hattie had just finished her show, and invited the audience to stay and listen to the Hawaiian Village Serenaders, and this song was playing as the music faded out.

Mystery Tune

A recording I have of that tune played by Pua Almeida ... it is titled "Floating Leis" however I suspect the real name is "Garden of Paradise". I never trust record label titles. These are the opening lyrics....

"If your Lei comes back
Then you'll come back
To the garden of paradise"

Hope this helps.

Thanks, Keoki!

For years I've been humming that little tune, not knowing the title.

Yah Jeff, you are probably, (without a doubt) correct. "When Your Lei Comes Back" is most likely the proper name. "In the Garden of Paradise" is also an old hymn title. "Lei" is a nice tune and the way Pua sang it was hard to beat. He was also such a fine steel player and a great person to know.

I'm trying to work up a few tunes for summer gigs...Does anyone have a music clip or MP3 of "Floating Leis" (instrumental or vocal) they could send me? I'm trying to learn it. I only have the lyrics for the first part:

I think it goes like this:

If your leis, float back
Then You'll come back
to the Islands of Paradise.

Through a million years, the salt has dried each tear, chasing millions of sad goodbyes...

(That is all I know of the melody and lyrics!)

Thanks for any help!

Alternate lyrics:

Well, the lei came back
It couldn't stay away
It was back on the beach the very next day.
