A rumor I have heard recently is that on some date in early Jan. 07, AVG version 7.5 will no longer be a free program .

Wiz, have you heard anything about this ? I know that the commerical version costs money. I have upgraded recently to V 7.5 and like it a lot .

Would appreciate knowing what info. relative to this subject Wiz or other forum members are are hearing about this .

Many thanks !
John

To the best of my current knowledge AVG will continue to offer a free version of their anti virus program, for private use. If I learn otherwise I will let you know, as I also use AVG 7.5x free edition.

Here is the news release that may be causing this confusion. It refers to the demise of free version 7.1, while introducing 7.5.

Hi Wiz I've been using AVG for a couple of years now, the free version. I updated from 7.1 to the new 7.5 free version and it locked up my computer and had to run in safe mode to uninstall. I'm using Windows XP Home.Any information concerning that.

Eddie;
Did you run the upgrade using the "Repair" install option? If not, that caused your problem. Alternately, you should completely uninstall AVG 7.1x, reboot, then install v7.5 and run at least three updates. If you use a software firewall, like ZoneAlarm, you will have to allow the "changed" program access to the Internet.
