Topic: Wiz, FireFox Wants QuickTime and I Don't |

Lately, when I click on a link to a music file (Like and .mp3) or when I go to a site that has music files embedded, FireFix flashes a message box saying that QuickTime is required. This has not always been the case and certainly don't want QuickTime installed on my system - it causes problems. Any idea why this is happening? And more importantly, how do I fix it?

From Firefox goto Tools > Options. From Options goto Downloads > View & Edit Actions. See if there are any MIME types associated with certain actions and change them to your preferred media player.
If no happy happy, open a Windows, like My Computer, and goto Tools > Folder Options > File Types. Scroll through the listed file types until you find the extensions that are trying to open in Quicktime. You can edit the program that opens them to point to Windows Media Player, Apply and OK and be good to go. Alternately, open Windows Media Player, goto Tools > Options > File Types > Select All > Apply > OK and close Media Player.
These methods should reassociate the desired file types with Windows Media Player. If not, let me know and we'll try something else.

| Very interesting. I just took a peek at the FF download actions and QT just about owns everything from .mp3's to .wav's. Definitely not of my doing---or at least of my deliberate doing. I thought Real Audio was the only culprit that did that crap. Creeps. |

QT is just as "bad" or "ill behaving software" as RealPlayer.
I've worked on several PC's that QT "took over" even tho it was not set to be the default player for media file types. |
