Anyone with an IPOD--does the IPOD have real-time, live recording (recording a conversation)?

If so, is the built in mic quite sensitive?

The iPod is not designed to offer realtime live recording. It's designed for playing back music files. It does not have built-in recording capabilities.
There are third party add-ons that allow you to record - here's one by Belkin. I have no experience with this device, nor others.

I have a cheap Ceative MP3 player that will record voice input through a built in mic. You can record multiple conversations and then dump them into your computer. I think they are .wav files. Capacity is relevent to player memory size. Some higher end units ($200) accept line in too. I paid $40 for mine at Wal-Mart.

Update: Okay, I just did some test recordings. I would guess they are mono recordings of a low resolution. I had 8 minutes of recording available because my player is mostly filled with music. I would say the sensitivity is not spectacular. But when the level is correct the voice is clear and easily interpretable (is that a word?). LOL

Yes, it is already a word. See this reference: http://www.wordreference.com/definition/interpretable

Thanks. I'll look at the Belkin device.

I want this so, when I'm walking alone, I can return to the house and provethat there ARE other voices that I am talking to.

I start therapy next week.

Thanks for the input.

I have a Creative MP3 player with the mic recording. It is low fidelity and only for voice. I tried music and it was terrible. A friend tried several other similar devices with recording capability and they were all for voice, not music.

or you can get one of these..

Edirol R-1 or R-09
http://www.zzounds.com/item--EDIR1

I have been using an R-1 for about two months now and I must say this is one of the coolest GEEK items I have ever purchased.

I paid $350 thru an authorized EBAY store.

6 different MP3 record settings, 16 bit Stereo wave and 24 bit Stereo wave recording as well.. Onboard mics( ok) and inputs for external Stereo mics and stereo line input.I upgraded to a 1 gig CF card and the unit also has direct USB PC connection for transfer of files, either direction.

excellent sound quality. 2 AA batteries or ext power supply.

Even has some on board effects, reverb, EQ, delay etc...

If I lost it or destroyed it I would buy another very quickly.

there ya go..

He already HAS an IPOD.
Answer: yes, I have an IPOD and I have the Belkin microphone and it works quite well...including live music.

Thanks for the replies.

Tony, yours sounds interesting but that is more than I wanted to pay. The one from Belkin is resonably price for what I want it for.
